The mercy of the Lord
The mercy of the Lord
Mercy: What is it?
- To understand what mercy is, we will begin in Luke 10: 30-37. There, Jesus uses a parable to answer a question from a lawyer about who his neighbor is:
Luke 10: 30-37
"Jesus answered and said, A man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him; and wounding him, they left, leaving him half dead. It happened that a priest descended that way, and when he saw him, he passed by. Likewise a Levite, arriving near that place, and seeing him, passed by. But a Samaritan, who was on his way, came near him, and seeing him, he was moved to mercy; and coming near, he bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and putting him on his mount, he took him to the inn, and took care of him. Another day when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said: Take care of him; and everything you spend more, I'll pay you when you return. Who, then, of these three seems to you to be the neighbor of the one who fell into the hands of the thieves? He said: The one who used mercy on him. Then Jesus said to him: Go, and do the same. "
Compared to the priest and the Levite, the Samaritan refused to be indifferent to the half-dead traveler. Rather, he had compassion; He showed him mercy and helped him. Therefore, mercy is having compassion for someone; Help out of love without expecting something in return. And the Lord is rich in this. As in Ephesians 2 it characteristically says:
Ephesians 2: 4-6
"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, even though we were dead in sins, gave us life together with Christ (by grace you are saved), and together with him he raised us up, and also made us to sit in heavenly places with Jesus Christ "
What gave us salvation was not our courage or what we could have done but the grace, love and mercy of God. Like the one that the thieves left half dead, so we were dead in iniquities. Religion, philosophy and all that can not help us. They passed by as well as the frock coat and the priest. However, the Lord "WHO IS RICH IN MERCY, FOR HIS GREAT LOVE WITH WHOM HE HAS LOVED US, EVEN WHEN WE WERE DEAD IN INIQUITIES, LIVED US TOGETHER WITH CHRIST" He extended His hand and "He delivered us from the power of darkness and we He moved to the kingdom of His beloved Son "(Colossians 1: 12-13). As 1 Peter 1: 3 says:
1 Peter 1: 3
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy made us be reborn for a living hope, for the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."
Romans 5: 8
"But God shows His love for us, in that while still sinners, Christ died for us"
We were dead He was full of love, mercy and compassion. He extended His hand and vivified us. In spite of being unworthy he made us worthy. Although we were sinners, he made us righteous. Even though we were his enemies he reconciled us to him. Even though we were in the kingdom of darkness, he transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. Certainly, how great is His grace, love, and mercy for each one of us personally.
"Let's approach then confidently ..."
Hebrews 4: 14-16
"Therefore, having a great high priest who pierced the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold our profession. Because we do not have a high priest who can not sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who was tempted in everything according to our likeness, but without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, in order to obtain mercy and find grace for the opportune help. "
We need mercy There is nobody who does not need it. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with confidence to receive what we need. Let's open our hearts to God. Let us ask for His mercy and compassion on us, as David did in his respective situations:
Psalm 4: 1
"Answer me when I cry, O God of my justice. When I was in anguish, you made me widen; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. "
The two blind men:
Matthew 9: 27-31
"As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out and saying: Have mercy on us, Son of David! 28 And when they came to the house, the blind came to him; and Jesus said to them: Do you believe that I can do this? They said: Yes, Lord. Then he touched their eyes, saying: According to your faith be it done unto you. And their eyes were opened. And Jesus charged them rigorously, saying: See that no one knows. But when they left, they spread his fame throughout the land. "
The woman of Canaan:
Matthew 15: 22-28
"And behold, a Canaanite woman who had come out of that region cried out, saying: Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is badly tormented by a demon. But Jesus did not answer a word. Then his disciples came and begged him, saying, Send her away, for she is crying after us. He answered and said: I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then she came and prostrated herself before him, saying: Lord, help me! Responding, he said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and throw it to the dogs. And she said: Yes, Lord; but even the dogs eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. Then Jesus answered and said: O woman, great is your faith; Ask yourself how you want. And her daughter was healed since then."
Matthew 17:15, 18
"Lord, have mercy on my son, who is lunatic, and suffers greatly; because many times it falls into the fire, and many times into the water. And Jesus rebuked the devil, who came out of the boy, and he was healed from that hour. "
The Lord's mercy and compassion for his children really have no measure, such as the distance between heaven and earth. We are vessels of mercy, vessels prepared by Him for glory. He has surrounded us with his love and compassion. He is rich in mercy.
Hebrews 4:16
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, in order to obtain mercy and find grace for the opportune help".
The mercies of God has been so abundance me for instant, during the time I was a sinner now, through his divine grace, I have been set free not by strength.
