It's God's will, not mine

It seems obvious, but in practice we let see that we do not understand the idea well. Many Christians today declare that they want to do God's will for their lives, but implicitly let them see that what they are seeking is an approval from God regarding the expectations of life that each one of us personally has. For example, on many occasions we hear statements

the idea is to make it clear that many times we have already decided what to do, based on our own desires (lust, selfishness, elitism, greed, etc.), and the only thing we expect is a kind of confirmation that what we decided to do is the will of God for our life. Added to this, we have cases where it is simply decided and declared: "I do this or that because I believe it is God's will for my life, after all, if it were not like that, how does God allow me to do it?" The problem with all of the above is that we disguise the will of God with our will, and what we should humbly seek, as children of God, is to do what God wants for us and not what we want for ourselves. It's your will, and not mine.

What God wants for me

The first thing we must consider as Christians is related to the idea of what God wants, because as we saw, it is about what He wants for us. In contrast to what many people think, God's will for us is not a lost truth that must be found, nor is it an unfathomable mystery that must be discovered, much less a train that comes from far which I must "wait" for. I want to clarify that I understand that Scripture teaches several times to wait on God, and I do not refer to that idea with the above, in fact, in those cases, God's will was to wait!

"But now, having been set free from sin and made servants of God, you have your fruit for sanctification, and as a result eternal life" (Rom 6:22).

"And do not get drunk with wine, in which there is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" (Eph 5:18).

"May the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing to God with thanksgiving in your hearts" (Col. 3:16).

"Because this is the will of God: your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality "(1 Thessalonians 4: 3).

This is what God wants for us, that we grow in holiness, that it be filled with the spirit, that those of his word be fulfilled, that we separate ourselves from fornication, that we support ourselves and forgive one another, that we love one another. others as He loved us, that we suffer for Him, that we deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him, that we imitate and teach about Him make disciples and that absolutely everything we make sea for His glory. You see, everything is here, it is here in his Word! To agree that knowing the Word of God and the meaning of this demand from us is difficult to obey and apply, imagine for a moment the difficulty we will have if God also entrusts us with discovering his will without revealing it in His Word.

It is the key, as these texts point out, are guided by the Holy Spirit in making decisions to know exactly what I should do personally. It is this general will of God that we must appropriate from day to day to be constantly doing His will. Prayer and meditation on the Word of the Lord, the decision, the guidance of the Spirit, not only between the bad and the good, but between the good and the best.
