REPENTANCE FROM INDOLATORY
What is repentance?
As google dictionary says;
The doctrine of repentance as taught in the Bible is a call to persons to make a radical turn from one way of life to another. The repentance (metanoia) called for throughout the Bible is a summons to a personal, absolute and ultimate unconditional surrender to God as Sovereign.

Introduction
Repentance is the first mark of true salvation. Repentance to the saving grace in the life of any one is seen in definite turn from the old life. Acts2:36-38, 2 Corinthians 5:17.
We shall learn from the thessalonians genuine repentance to God. Mathew 7:20.
Let me make this study into 3 part.
A. Genuine Repentance.
Repentance denotes a change of mind for the better, implying sorrow for unbelief and sin, and turning from them unto God and the gospel of Christ.
Repentance is not feeling guilty or being sorry not for what they have done but for the penalty they would receive when caught.
Repentance is not becoming religious or trying to be a good person. Acts10:1-4.
If we look at Cornelius in a Bible, he was a religious and good person, but still needed to repent.
B. Expression of genuine Repentance
1 Thessalonica 1:
The only key word in repentance is "Change" to Christ. The Thessalonians recorded to have turns from idoltary to serve the living God.
Repentance is always with an inward conviction of wrong doing expressed with outward action toward Christ.
Two things must be considered :
It is being truthful about your sinful state and the consequences of it, 1 John 1:9.
It's on facing a new direction in Christ and rejecting the old way. 1 Thessalonica 1:9.
C. There are two levels of repentance:
Repentance from sinful Nature (dead works). Isaiah 64:6, Acts 3:19. This the step that is taking to come to the kingdom to become a child of God.
Repentance from the works of the flesh. 1 John 1:8-9. This is the repentance that comes as part of the Salvation process, and the journey towards maturity.
Conclusion
Many people felt quilty of their sinful life, but they did not repent deeply in their heart.
Sinful life lead to death, have genuine encounter with God and you shall be free from bondage of sin. SHALOM
