KINDS OF SYNCRETISM.

The English term “Syncretism comes from the Greek word Syncretismos, according to the historic and etymological derivation of the word, syncretism it refers to the “joining together of quarreling brothers” syncretism is the attempt to unite together those elements which are not compatible. A combination or reconciliation of differing beliefs in religion, philosophy etc. or an attempt to effect such compromise.

The evangelical dictionary of theology says that syncretism is the process by which element of one religion are assimilated with another religion, resulting in a change in the fundamental tenents or nature of these religions, it is the union of two or more opposite belief, so that syncretized form is new thing.]

CHARACTERISTICS OF SYNCRETISM.

1. That, there is no unique revelation in history.

2. That, there are many different ways to reach the divine reality.

1. That, all formulations of religious truth or experience are by their very nature inadequate expressions of that truth and that it is necessary to harmonize as much as possible, all religious idea and experiences so as to create one universal religion for mankind.

KINDS OF SYNCRETISM:

There are two kinds of syncretism.

1. Conscious and deliberate syncretism: this is that which comes from the top leadership within the church in seeking to accommodate the gospel with other religious faith or culture.

2. Spontaneous syncretism: is when people unknowingly mix things that do not fit together, a Christian brother seeking prayers and spiritual help from the church and pastor, but when that fails he seek traditional help from the medicine man.

The different between a possessed man and a prophet:

1. A possessed man delivers message of local repentance.

2. The prophet addresses a larger group with wider implication.
