UNITED WE STAND!, DIVIDED WE FALL!: THE FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIANITY!

in #steemchurch6 years ago

The motive of the Catholic body of Christianity was geared toward oneness for the Christian fellowship, in order to build a solid foundation of Christianity.

In fact the word "Catholic" in its literal meaning as is: "including a wide variety of things; all-embracing". But the original meaning is " universal" or "general."

There was the formation of Catholic body which involed all the Christian body, so there nothing like Methodist church, Anglican church, Roman Catholic church and so on. It was regarded as the true church as distinct from heretical congregation. Which shared a common dicision and did things together. But one thing that brings separation is divided mind or misuderstanding on issue.

Before the establishment of the various churches as we see today, there was some misuderstanding between members of the Catholic body that brought this separation. There was miscommunication about the purpose of collecting and usage of money among the Catholic body. So other were in support of leaders collecting the money, and others too were not in support. Through this confusion iminated and therefore members have to find their ways by establishing their churches and naming them.

One thing we should note is that separation can come in any organisation or business, but not in Christian body. Not in any way should we allow this to happen. Apostle Paul wrote in one of his books:

1 CORINTHIANS 1:10-13KJV

"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement.
For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Cloe, that there are contentions among you.
Now this I say, that everyone of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?"

If the body of Christ has not been divided, then why should we divide ourselves as Christians? I put it before the house that it is not Christ which has been divided but rather the individual churches and their doctrines. The way and manner the churches organise their activities separate us. If we all mention the name of Christ, believe in the Trinity-thus God the father; God the son; and God the Holy spirit, I do not see the reason why we should divide ourselves. Even believing in the Trinity of God alone gives us some clue that Christianity was borne in oneness and not individuality.

We have divided ourselves to the extent that we have named other churches as: "one man church." Meanwhile, we all mention and use the name of Christ, then there is no such division to call some churches as one man church, since we all pursue one goal, that is we worship Christ. This no a single church that does not mention the name of Christ, we are the followers of Christ and hence we should encourage unity among us.

The Catholic ideology was started in the Genesis when the people at that time stayed in unity, spoke one language and decided to build a tower to reach God. Had it not been God who separated with different languages, their decisions had been materialized.

GENESIS 11:1-8

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morterAnd they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city."

This shows that there is power in coming together with common goal. As the people decided with one mouth, one heart, one language and one faith God saw that if He does not destruct them, in fact their aim was going to be achieved. For unity is strength and mighty, and that was what the concept stood for. Today, the Catholic idea seems to be weak among Christianity and the need to revive it for good.

Finally, Christ is one body like the human body having so many parts of which these parts perform numerous duties as a unit. Christianity is also viewed in that segment. Though we have many churches, but we are all one body in Christ Jesus. Amen!
