LEAVE SOMETHING PRECIOUS FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS

JOHN 19:25-27

"But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Jopas, and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "woman, behold you son!"
Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your your mother!," And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home."

What did Jesus Christ meant by saying that: "woman, Behold, your son, and to the disciple too; "Behold your mother? At that time Jesus Christ saw that he was about to die leaving his mother and the one he loved so much, but it would be necessary for he to think about the family he has left them behind(future generation). In doing this, He has to handle them to the one who is faithful and can take proper of them. That is why He handed the mother and the disciple to each other, so that in his absence he would know that he has left something precious for the future generation. And immediately He did that, the disciple took her mother to his own house, indicating that the disciple was ready to be the custodian of Jesus' mother.

In human situations these things have been happening day in and day out. Looking at our Nuclear Family for instance, which is headed by the father. In case the father dies, the family appoint someone to be his successor to be able to look after the deceased his children that he has left them behind. In most cases, the father also make a "Will" for his children spelling out the number of property he has left for these future generations. Some of these property can cars, land, houses, money, education and precious items that the children can rely for their future life. The same thing occurs in the Extended Family system, where the Uncle happens to be the head of the family, having the Nephews and Nieces under him.

All these things are material things that the World leaves for our future generations. And most of these things can be destroyed. That is why Matthew 6:19-20, says that: "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves breaks in and steal, "but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor thieves do not break in and steal." To have this treasure laid in heaven is to have the word of God.

Therefore, in order to leave something precious for our future generation, we must teach or train them through the word of God. And this is the most precious thing every parent must leave for his or her ward as property. Not the one which could be lost in just a second. What kind of training are you giving to your children, so that when you die they can replace you or fix well in your position? Apostle Paul informed Timothy that: "what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to the faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Paul, Timothy, "faithful men," and "others" represent four spiritual generations built on the enduring foundation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most of us have acquired so much in the word of God, but we do not instill them into our younger generations. Should remember Christianity that does have solid foundations of future generation of th word of God, is weak Christianity.

Are we leaving only for today and the short term, or are we giving ourselves to others who will continue the faith after our race is run? Living for Christ and making disciples are all about the next generation. We should therefore think of leaving the word of God to our beloved children who are our future leaders.

A good legacy is very important cause in the end, it is not what we achieved on earth that will count, it is not the number of cars we had that will count. Rather what will count is the footprints we leave on the sands of timeless times. How many lives have you been able to affect positively? That's what matters!

Nice read. I think your article is more directed at making a legacy for one. It's indeed a nice thing to have a good name on others around and impact in them, but it shouldn't be our focus in life. Our personal relationship should be utmost. We can be viewed as holy or good by many, but differently when God sees us. Let us not neglect this.

Thanks for the fine writeup.

God gave what we have to help those around us. We need to leave a legacy especially for the younger ones to copy. Thanks for sharing .

To our children and other younger members of our family and community, we leave our example, our way of acting, our faith in God.
