Today, when you go to most Universities, Teacher training colleges and second cycle institutions we will only the securities, furniture and vacant classrooms. The reason being that, everybody is travelling to his hometown to spend the Christmas holidays.

For some of you who have never visited Ghana for Christmas holidays, I want to give you the picture of what happens during the Christmas holidays. Like I said earlier, this is the season that most people travel to their hometowns to celebrate the Christmas holidays, and because of pressure on most workers they do not often go to visit their hometowns. So, when the year is ending, they have to by all means go. Since everybody is going, there are pressures on vehicles to convey travellers to their various destinations.

Christmas travellers are seen to form a queue at various bus stations waiting for vehicles. Some wake up early dawn to wait to board in the buses. You will see passengers struggling and fighting among themselves, since everybody wants to get to his/her hometown early. Some travellers even spend two to three days before they get car to get to their hometowns. Because of this, drivers also take advantage to charge passenger higher fairs, which is illegal. But, passengers have no option rather than to pay, there are scarcity of vehicles during this period.

One would ask, what if travellers are returning back to their various work places and institutions? The same thing is experienced, but comparatively, there are more pressure on going than returning, since there are time variations of the individuals returning. So, this is what travellers in Ghana go through during Christmas festivity.
