LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE PARABLE OF THE TEN VIRGINS(Matthew 25:1-13)
Jesus talked about many parables in the Bible and they all referred to the life of His people on earth, both those that believes and those who never did. One of the parables in the Bible is the parable of the Ten(10)virgins which I will be discussing today.
This parable signifies many things in our world today. It speaks about the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the judgement that will follow His return. Matthew 25:13 says...."Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh."
source
Here,the parable of the ten virgins symbolizes many things which are;
1 The virgins
2 Lamps and oil
3 The absence of the bridegroom
4 Slumbering and sleeping
5 The midnight
6 The cry
7 The trimming of light
8 Having no oil
9 The refusal to give oil
10 Entering into the feast
THE VIRGINS
Here the virgins is not about a woman not knowing a man but the Bible talks about the church while Jesus would be the bridegroom that will come and take us home. The message of the parable is for the church and not for the world.
We are warned that Christ may delay His coming, but we should be prepared at anytime. He would come at midnight, this means that the son of man will come anytime, anyday when we don't expect,He will appear to us like a thief in the night.
The parable classified the virgins into two;The wise and The foolish. The wise represents the true believer in Christ who are prepared for His coming while the foolish represents the unbelievers.
Truly all the virgins got prepared with their lamps with them, they all slept waiting for the bridegroom but there was a difference between the two. The wise took extra oil with them, this shows that they were ready for Him when He comes but the others were foolish not to take for themselves extra oil.
The foolish obviously did not anticipate that the coming of the bridegroom could be so delayed. Their failure to take extra oil made the difference and determined their fate.
LAMP AND OIL
Here the lamp and oil represents our "faith" and meditating on the word of God which is the "Bible". The lamps of our faith and Bible study must be kept burning all through the day and night.
The wise virgins hold on to their lamp(faith) and extra oil(Bible). They were ever ready for Jesus coming. So as Christians,we must keep the fire burning in us,uphold and defend the truth in the word of God. We must not allow modern thinking and liberal theology to water down or pollute our faith.
The Lord will take only those who are ready for His coming into the marriage supper. The door will be shut against those who are not ready after the call has gone out,and it will not be opened to anyone who comes late.
In Matthew 25:6,the bridegroom came when no one was expecting but the wise virgins got up and followed Him in but the foolish were left outside hoping to receive some more oil into their lamps but as it was,it became too late for them. There was cry as Jesus refused to open the door for them. So it will be on the Lord's day, there will be crying and wailing on that day when Jesus will refuse the unbelievers.
In Gen 6:13, God told Noah that He would destroy the earth because of their wicked deeds and failure to follow God's step. Noah warned the people but instead they continued their wayward life until God destroyed them on the land with water.
That is how it would be when the son of man would come but the only difference is He will not use water to destroy the earth. That is why there is hell fire where the wicked people will spend their eternity.
As Christians,we should never be overwhelmed with the things of the world rather look forward to His coming.
God is ready for the trumpet to be blown and rapture takes place but Jesus is taking His time, asking for another chance from His Father so that we can amend our ways if we are in a way acting like the foolish virgins. The trumpet will sound when we don't expect,it can meet us anywhere but we should always be ready and prepared everyday of our lives. We need to stay away from things that will want to obstruct our ways into the kingdom of heaven.
Everyday of our lives,we should be available by putting on our lamps and filling it with oil as the wise virgins did. We must keep our focus on the message of the gospel as we continue to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
My greetings to @sirknight and all members of @steemchurch. I wish you all a great and wonderful week.
