STEEMCHURCH - SECOND COMMANDMENT (BIBLE STUDY)

in #steemchurch6 years ago (edited)

A warm greeting Dear friends and brothers
Welcome to my blog
God bless you!

continuing with this precious study today we will talk about the second commandment that for people who are not in the ways of Christ is difficult to understand.

You shall not make for yourself an image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You will not bow down to them, nor honor them.
Exodus 20: 4-5

Some people believe that it is forbidden to make images of anything. If this were so, then it would be forbidden to take pictures, watch television, movies, newspapers, magazines and even the use of money, because even tickets bring images. Such an interpretation of this commandment is absurd. The commandment includes any likeness of things in heaven, on earth, and in the waters beneath the earth to worship the Lord..

The representation of the divinity by statues was very common, especially in the ancient East. The people had various gods and worshiped idols, objects that represented their gods. Therefore, the people of Israel were in danger of following this example and worshiping false gods prostrating themselves before their idols, or even worshiping God through images that sought to represent their attributes.

Now, to become "idols" is to set aside the revelation of God, is to give him a distorted image. It is even corrupting this revelation by means of a human contribution that apparently is for the glory of God, but that very often disgraces it. There is nothing material that can adequately represent the attributes of the Lord.

God is invisible, so we can not represent him through images, not even imagine it. The apostle Paul told the Athenians that "we should not think that the Godhead is like gold, or silver, or stone, sculpture of art and imagination of men"

Being, then, God's lineage, we should not think that the Godhead is like gold, or silver, or stone, sculpture of art and imagination of men.
Acts 17:29

So, how can we really worship? Jesus told a woman from Samaria asking where to worship: "God is a Spirit; and those who worship him, in spirit and in truth, they must worship "

God is Spirit; and those who adore him, in spirit and truth, must worship.
John 4:24

CONCLUSION

That invisible God revealed himself, he became visible in the person of his Son, whom he sent to earth. In Jesus Christ, and only through him, we learn to know God, who loves us and cares for us.

Very good teaching, idolatry also comes from the heart, everything that takes away the first place to God is idolatry.

Great post.
