Of course, these sayings are far from being what God expects from his people. Let's see how the law is defined and what the scriptures say about it.
From the biblical perspective, the law is a method of religious education, a reflection of what would come when the messianic age of the Lord Jesus was introduced.
Jesus affirmed that grace does not nullify the law. Jesus said: "Do not think that I have come to annul the law." Rather, the law finds its starting point in the very nature of God and Jesus himself came to fulfill it.
So the law is the establishment of a practical custom in a community.
It is a norm of conduct prescribed or implemented by the authority of a nation.
It is a rule or ordinance advisable or mandatory for all.
In short, a law is a norm that must be observed.
Civil laws have been established in order to safeguard the rights and property of all equally.
Those who break the laws of a nation must be arrested, tried and punished.
The scriptures recognize the civil laws of any government as norms that must also be observed by the children of God, unless they demand or imply disobedience to the revealed will of God.
Among the cases of contempt of human decrees out of respect for the will of God, Daniel can be cited (3: 10-12)
10 Thou, O king, hast enacted a law, which every man in hearing the sound of the horn, of the fife, of the tambourine, of the harp, of the psaltery, of the panpipe, and of every instrument of music, bows down and worships the golden image: 11 And whoever does not bow down and worship, was thrown into a fiery furnace of fire. 12 There are some Jewish men, whom you set over the affairs of the province of Babylon; Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: these men, O king, have not accounted for you; they do not worship your gods, they do not adore the golden statue that you raised.
We can also quote the apostles (Acts 4: 18-20)
18 And calling them, they intimated that they should not speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered, saying to them, Judge whether it is right before God to obey you rather than God;
20 because we can not stop saying what we have seen and heard.
The purpose of God in general is for Christians to submit to the laws that govern in the countries where they reside (Romans 13: 1-7)
13 Every person submit himself to the higher authorities; because there is no authority but from God, and those that are, by God have been established.
2 So that whoever opposes the authority, to the established by God resists; and those who resist bring condemnation to themselves.
3 For the magistrates are not to fear the good, but the evil. Would you have no fear of authority? Do good, and you will have praise of it;
4 because he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, fear; for not in vain does he bear the sword, for he is a servant of God, an avenger to punish him who does evil.
5 Therefore it is necessary to be subject, not only because of punishment, but also because of conscience.
6 For this also you pay the tributes, because they are servants of God who continually attend to this very thing.
7 Pay everyone what you owe: to whom tribute, tribute; to which tax, tax; whom I respect, respect; whom he honors, honors.
