In Christ Perpetual Children

It is devastating to see a child who is physically or mentally underdeveloped. But what is worse is to see the older Christians, but they do not grow in faith. Why is it worse? Because it is a condition by choice; It is a self-imposed condition. This was the problem in the church in Corinth that left more complex, if not caused, many other problems. Paul calls these Christians "children in Christ." He says: "I have given you milk to drink, I have not given you solid food: because you can not bear it yet, neither now can you" (1 Corinthians 3: 2). Being "children in Christ" is not the problem; to remain children in Christ is.

Perpetual children are the result of negligence. Spiritual growth is not an accident. It requires spiritual nutrition and is no less important than physics. God says we should "desire the genuine spiritual milk" so that through it we can grow (1 Peter 2: 2). Growth in knowledge is essential for growth in faith (Romans 10:17). Those who continue to neglect opportunities to know and grow harm themselves and hinder their usefulness in the service of the Lord. But that is not all.

Lack of knowledge also makes perpetual children easy prey for Satan. The word of God in the heart of man provides a much needed defense against sin. The psalmist says, "I keep your words in the heart, so that I do not sin against you" (Psalm 119: 11). In addition, the word of God provides the armor we need to face the devil's cunning (Ephesians 6: 10-20). Peter tells Satan like a lion that roars walking looking for who could devour, and tells us to resist him "firm in the faith" (1 Peter 5: 8-9). Obviously, those who are weak in the flesh will be more vulnerable.

Finally, the perpetual child in Christ will always be harming in teaching others the gospel that he did not learn. God said we should be ready to give an answer to those who seek a reason for our hope (1 Peter 3:15). True? Did we grow as we should? If not, why not start now?
