The Unavoidable Appointment --- devotional

There are multiple options in life, especially for people who live in relatively free countries. The places we live, the people we marry, and the kinds of career we pursue are very much influenced by our desires and choices. However, there is one event over that we have no control over, and that’ is our appointment with death.

Adam and Eve, the very first human species, did have a choice regarding life and death. When God gave Adam the instruction not to consume of the tree of the knowledge of evil and good, God said, “for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die” (Genesis 2:17). Yet Adam and Eve did actually eat of the forbidden; Consequently, sin and death became the very companion of the human race from that day. In mankind's genealogy, as recorded in Genesis 5, a phrase repeatedly drives this point home: “and he died.”

Even though, we are no longer able to choose whether to live or die, there is one other man who can. His name is Jesus Christ. He said in the book of John, “I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me” (John 10:17-18). The eternal Son of God decided to take on human flesh in order to die on the cross as a sacrifice for mankind's iniquities.

Because Jesus chose to die, we can now have life eternal by believing in Him. Our human bodies will one day be deceased, yet if we trust in death of Christ as the payment for our inquities, we shall be resurrected just as He was and enter into heaven to be with Him forever.

Thank you for making time to go through today's message. Stay blessed
