Why we call ourselves brothers?

in #steemchurch6 years ago

The followers of Jesus were identified by different titles in the New Testament: disciples, saints, Christians, followers of the Way, brothers. The latter has been adopted within the Church of Christ with voluntariness and richness of meaning, therefore, we must always reflect on its biblical origin and the reasons that make us call someone "brother" or "sister", avoiding the emptying of this beautiful and spiritual form of treatment among Christians.

Jesus teaches us that submission to the Father makes men brothers, regardless of ethnic background, the absence of family connection or age: "Because anyone who does the will of my Father who is in heaven, this is my brother , and sister ... "(MATTHEW 12:50). Thus, everyone who perseveres in Christ is the brother of the other disciples of Christ, and only ceases to be considered a brother, he stops serving Christ: "But now I have written to you not to associate with him who, being said brother, is devastated or greedy, or idolatrous, or railing, or drunkard, or robber: with such one do not even eat "(1 Corinthians 5:11).

We will necessarily go through some biblical quotes.

We, disciples of Christ, are brothers because we seek to live as a family, always wishing to strengthen our bonds of communion. The Brothers in Christ care about each other (ROMANS 14:21, I CORINTHIANS 6: 6, 8: 12,13), they live in love (1 John 3:14, 4:21), they take care of each other (TIAGO 2 (1 Thessalonians 5:25, II TESSALONICANSES 3: 1), sacrifice themselves for one another (1 John 3:16) and even disagree with each other, when necessary (II TESSALONICANSES 3: 6).

The leaders of the Church of Christ in the first century, following the example of Paul, Timothy, Titus and Tychicus, were also treated as brothers (II CORINTHIANS 1: 1, 2:13, EPHESIANS 6:21), often renouncing other titles that adapt them These leaders, while valuing the leadership constituted by God and elected by the Church (ACTS 6: 1-3), demonstrated that they did not want to create spiritual "castes" in the Church, after all, in Christ, "there is no Greek, Jew, circumcision, uncircumcision, barbarian, appointment, servant or free, but Christ is all in all "(Colossians 3:11).

The living commitment perceived among the brothers marked the beginning of Saulo's Christian career. He who had been an enemy of Christians, now converted to Christ, was accepted, loved and protected as is done with a brother. Saul was transformed into brother Saul, and so was he treated by Ananias: "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the path where you came, sent me ..." (ACTS 9:17). Peter, in his second epistle, referred to the apostle as "our beloved brother Paul" (II PETER 3:15). In Damascus, the brothers in Christ helped Saul to flee from those who wanted to kill him (ACTS 9: 22-25). In Jerusalem, the brothers decided to accompany Saul to Caesarea, where they sent him by ship to Tarsus, his homeland (ACTS 9:30). Being called a brother by the servants of Jesus became an honorable title for Paul.

Have you valued your brotherhood of those who are also children of the Father through Jesus? Have you marked the lives of your brothers through your permanent witness, love, zeal and commitment? That is being a brother!

Very good Brother Jose, many people are frustrated in life because they do not have a good brother to support themselves, our Lord Jesus Christ has given us great friends who are like brothers in good times and bad times. Thank you for sharing this valuable teaching.
