Steemchurch:Seeing is Believing OR Believing is Seeing?

Quotation (John 20: 28 -29)

Thomas answered and said, 'My Lord and my God'. Jesus said to him, 'Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen (Me) and yet believe

After His resurrection, the Lord Jesus began the task of making Himself known to His disciples that He has been raised to life as He foretold. We are told that He revealed Himself to Mary Magdalene, and to Peter earlier on, and now to the eleven in a locked room, but Thomas, the Twin was absent. This is where our devotion today comes in.

Most people always think that the disciples of Jesus were very simple people, unlearned and unthinking people, and who just follow religion and miracles and the pie in the sky. I bet you, some people today even think that Christians are the most stupid people on earth, because they just believe anything, follow anything and are deceived by religion. But the fact is, this assertion isn't true.

Scriptures reveal to us that the disciples were most rational, sceptical and doubting people, who couldn't just be deceived. The case of Thomas, the Twin, is a classic example for us.
He had followed Jesus for almost three and half years, and knew Him, saw His ministry and miracles. Finally, His Master was betrayed, arrested, trialed, condemned and crucified, died and buried. Now comes the rumours of His resurrection after three days, and very conflicting accounts too. Above all these, the other disciples were saying they have seen the Lord. So what do you expect Thomas to do? Jump and say hurral, hurrey! No, rational people, common sense people, intellectually minded people don't buy into things like that. The facts must prove itself. Seeing is believing, that is the motto. Thomas even went further, he must see the prints of the nails, and put his finger inside the wound made by the spear that was thrust on His side.

But after one week, the disciples were in the same room, at the same time, with the door locked and the doubter, common sense man Thomas was with them.

Then suddenly the Lord Jesus come into their midst like a ghost. That might startled him. Added to the shock is that Thomas was called out and forward to examine the facts and investigate the resurrection for himself. Thomas now sees what he wanted all along to see, but afraid to follow his ignorance, doubt and unbelief.
He confessed the Lordship of Jesus and faith in Him. The Lord simply told him to believe and stop doubting the account of the resurrection. The Lord added blessing to all those who will not see Him, but will believe the account of His death and resurrection.
For us sitting at the other side of history, we may not be fortunate like Thomas to see the Lord before we can believe. But Heaven's blessing is waiting for you and I for believing even though we have not see Him (only just heard about the account of His death and resurrection). Because He would definitely make Himself manifest to us if we believe in Him. In other words, believing is seeing. For the testimony of God is, 'Without faith, it's impossible to please God, for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Heb 11: 6). So seek Him by faith and He will reward you with His manifestation to prove to you that He is alive.
May your believing bring you great rewards and may the Lord cause Himself to be made known to you.
May His blessings be upon you in Jesus name. Amen

PRAY WITH ME
Thank you Father for your manifold grace and blessings. Help us believe in the truth, though we may not see or understand it all, but you know all things. Cause our day to be blessed and enable us to believe in you and in your word all the time in Jesus name. Amen

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. Amen

Shalom, life and grace to you

Thomas helps us understand what Jesus was teaching his disciples during his post-resurrection appearances. Those who loved him on earth had to learn to live without the physical aspect of Christ, the truth of seeing, touching, and hearing from him. There would be no more sitting at the table with him and filling the mind with his words, but now they would learn to walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, I would walk with them, sit with them, eat with them, but in a deeper way is not limited by space and time. Here is a tremendous lesson for us that we must learn.

The concept you added up is well established, thanks so much for stopping by on this post
