Steemchurch:HEART OF CONTRITION

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5: 4)

We are living in a time when people no longer feel sorry for their wrong doings. Their conscience no longer convicts them. And as a result there is no repentance, no godly sorrow for sins and no restitution for the wrongs done. It's like they have the rights to sin, to do those lawlessness and evil and get away with it, and everything still becomes normal again. And if anyone dare to tell them or confront them with their sins and ungodly acts, all hell break lose. Oh what a world we have now.
But the good news is that the words of Jesus stand firm, it's those who mourn that will be comforted by God.
What did Jesus mean by that? In this life, people mourn, weep and become sorrowful for different things, such as loss of a dear one, a valuable property, a huge amount of money, a missed opportunity, a family break up, etc.
But is this that Jesus was implying? No. He actually meant people who acknowledge their wrongdoings, their sins and in a sense of conviction, move in godly sorrow, repent and turn to God for forgiveness.

A classic example is David when he committed adultery and murder. He quickly moved to cover his wrongdoings up from the public as most people do today. And he went about his duties as the king as if all is well. The record of Psalm let us know all wasn't well with him. "When I kept quiet over my sins, my whole body wasted away, and I groaned in pain all day long. For the weight of your hand (your judgment) was on me day and night. My body became dry like ground in summer heat. Then I acknowledged my wrong doings to You. And my sins I longer covered up. I said, I will confess my sins to the Lord and you forgave my sins (Psalm 32: 3 -5). You can never be comforted when under the heavy weight of guilt, condemnation and divine judgment. The confort of men and material things are vain and futile. Until David owned up to his sins and repented in mourning, the peace of God eluded him. The prodigal son was another example. He was only comforted and restored when he acknowledged his wrong doings, repented and confessed them to God and his father.
The moral and spiritual lesson for us Christians today is, Heaven's peace and comfort come to people with a contrite heart. "The sacrifice God delight in is a broken spirit, O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51: 17). The truth still remains that, it's only those who mourn over their sins and repent that receive heavenly comfort through forgiveness and restoration.
My counsel to you is, learn not to follow the trend of the times, but be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and to your conscience, so that you can walk with a heart of contrition and receive the comfort of God always.
May the comfort of the fellowship of the Lord fill your life as you learn to mourn for your sins in Jesus name. Amen
Shalom, life and grace to you
