Donkeys

It is true, the name of this message is not very attractive, but hopefully we will understand the meaning of this writing as we get to know the donkeys more.

The donkey is a very peculiar animal, within its characteristics is the good memory, it can come to remember another donkey that it saw 25 years ago, impressive for those who see all the donkeys equal. They can also live more than 50 years and have more strength than a horse of the same size. They are oriented towards self preservation, therefore it is very difficult for them to do something that seems dangerous to their physical integrity.

Although it is hard for us to believe them, the donkeys also lived in the Garden of Eden and Adam had to give them a name, they also survived the universal flood and already in the time of Moses, when instructions were given to guide the people of Israel, a strange ordinance on these animals. For each born donkey born, the owners of that animal had to sacrifice a lamb to "purify" the life of the donkey, to be redeemed (Exodus 13:13). This mandate did not exist for any other animal, only for donkeys.

In the historical context, thinking about the time of Moses, the donkey showed the worst characteristic of the people of Israel: stubbornness. According to the real academy of the language, obstinacy could be defined as:

"To remain in its resolution and theme, to persist with foolishness and pertinacity, without being overcome by reasonable requests and reprimands or by obstacles or setbacks"

With the above background, God makes it clear that donkeys are animals that do not enjoy the best characteristics or personal skills, at least they are not the most coveted animals or the most sensible. They are also called "beasts of burden", I think that with that name we are clear about their status.

With all the previous antecedents, in John 12: 12-19 we find something interesting, it is like a kind of vindication of donkeys, since it is Jesus himself who chooses this animal for a tremendously important purpose. When Jesus makes his triumphal entry into the city, he sits on a donkey. Have you noticed that sign? Of all the animals he could have ridden, he chose a donkey, the vilest of animals. When Jesus rode the donkey, he dressed him with tremendous importance, he carried the son of God, to whom he came to fulfill the promises of Father.

Jesus is that lamb that redeemed the birth of the offspring of a donkey, we, the asnitos that we often act stubbornly. And in this scene of the triumphal entry, He, the Lamb of God, is mounted (that is, by) in the obstinacy of a donkey, reminding us again that He is the offering so that that donkey (we) can be used for great things, transforming us AFTER HE USES us in noble, simple beings, with strength and hands, guided by God, working diligently to do the will of God.

Excellent reflection @jenniferbrito Jesus chose the most vile and despised of the world to mount and honor him.
