THE DEMANDS OF THE KINGDOM
Welcome back!
Today we will be looking at Christians as salt and light of the world. This can be seen in mattew 5:13-16
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.
The Bible let us to know that we are the salt and light of the world. Salt is used for many purpose, it gives taste to our food, no one can cook good food without adding salt. As a salt we seasoned the world, make it a better place to live in by living an examplary life. We should be be honest, sincere, respectful, industrious, etc
Light illuminates the earth and makes people see the right way to follow. As the light of the world, our lives as a believer, should show the unbeliever around us, the path to Christ. Our lifestyle as a christian should bring people closer to God, lead those wondering in darkness and ignorance to the full knowledge of our Lord Jesus.
Forgiveness - Mattew 6:14-15
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses
Forgiveness is a crucial aspect in the lives of every christian. We must learn to forgive others their trespasses and forget also. We should also know that we on the other hand, has offends our friends and people around us knownly and unknownly. If really we need forgiveness from God, we should learn to forgive others .
Fasting and prayer - Mattew 6:16-18
Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
So that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your father who is in the secret place; and your father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Jesus taught His disciple how to pray. He guide them on the principle of prayers not to pray like the hypocrites who always showed off while praying for men to see that they are praying. He taught them to avoid unnecessary repetitions of words while praying. They should know that God already knows our needs, what is excepted of us is to voice it out to our father. He thought them to pray like this:
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our debth,
As we also have forgiven our debtor;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil .
