What is arrogance as defined by God?

In James 4:13-17 we see a clear explanation that to be arrogant is to live life outside God's calling, as if we are entitled to something other than this one moment, this one breath.

Boasting About Tomorrow

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Stop living like you HAVE tomorrow

According to the bible, we ought to recognize that none but this moment is ours, and even that is a gift from a gracious God who loves us, and deserves our greatest praise, dedication and worship.

Therefore, every moment spent seeking tomorrow, or setting in place long plans to build worldly wealth for ourselves is pure arrogant insolence.

Worldly wealth being, reputation, money, and power for its own sake. These things lead only to eternal death and judgement, why? Because storing up wealth for our own sake, is to deny that wealth where God desires it be spent today. In other words, living like we have got tomorrow coming is to deny the needs all around us, and raises the question: who do you serve, yourself or God?

Live like today is all you have, because it is

Despite the data on life expectancy in North America, none of us know what the next year, month, week or even next moments will bring us. We are not entitled to anything more than God gives us, and we are wise to remember these truths.
