Why must the flesh die? Why must the corn of wheat that falls into the ground die?

To make divine partnership possible. All you need to succeed in life. To reach your goal and to prosper, is God's presence. God told Joshua that as He was with Moses, He would be with him and that no man would be able to stand before him all the days of his life (Joshua 1:5). Joshua then began to move forward, one victory after the other. However, somebody in the camp whose flesh did not, spoilt the show. He saw what belonged to God and stole it. God then withdrew His presence from Joshua until the flesh was dealt with.
Amos 3:3 says "can two walk together, except they be agreed?" John 4:24 says God is a spirit and they that worship Him must do so in spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 says the flesh lusts against the spirit and the spirit lusts against the flesh. They are contrary, one to the other. The flesh has to die if you want God who is the spirit to be your partner. Roman 8:5-8 says
"Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God."
The flesh profits nothing. Why then are you taking so much care of it? Why not sit down one day and calculate how Much money you spend on the flesh and compare it with how much money you spend on your spirit, on Christian tapes and books? How much do you spend on the things of God and how much do you spend on yourself? Death is the way to life. One thing about death is that no one knows when it will come. In Revelation 22:7, Jesus said He comes quickly. The problem is that we do not know how quickly. This is why those who are wise are constantly laying up treasure in heaven
