GOD ALONE IS GREAT

There's no great man of God. All men are weak and rely upon the grace of God. I've seen many men offer praise to men instead of God. It's expected of a man to honor others but there's something most of us miss and that's what those men of God did not do it by their power.

We must always know that there is the hidden hand of God backing every exploit that happens in Christianity. Christianity has produced myriads of great Bible expositors and great men of faith. But are they great in themselves? No. Without God they wouldn't have been able to even mention "Jesus is Lord".

Moses was a great man who did a great work for the people of God and by so doing made history. But was it Moses who did it? Is it not the hand of God that moved him? A perfect analogy is the one found in levers. In the various classes, we see that there must be an effort in order to move the load about the fulcrum. The same thing goes for men of God. They are like a load fasted to one side of the lever. The load cannot move freely about the pivot unless there is an effort. So is the man of God. He cannot act without the power of God.

Without the power of God, man is weak and nothing. Without the power of God, Paul would not have been able to preach to the gentiles. Martin Luther would've been a coward before the Pope and his host of bishops. He would've recanted if not for the enabling of the Holy Ghost. He could've just said I recant and the whole of humanity would still be in darkness by now.

I've heard countless men say that if not for Moses, the Israelites would've rotten in Egypt. That sounds good in the ears of men but not so in the ears of God. To claim that is to mean God cannot move without a man. And that's a heretic. God is self-existing and needs no man to help him. Man is not self-existing and needs God to give him daily oxygen for survival. So therefore, it's better to say that without God, Moses would've rotten in Egypt as a slave.

Often times we unknowingly give glory to men instead of God. We forget to acknowledge the invisible and invincible hand of Elohim. In all things, glory and praise must be given to God. No one can preach like Charles Haddon Spurgeon. Why? Because Spurgeon did not preach. God preached through him. He was just a mouthpiece. I love his answer when John was inquired whether he was the long-awaited Messiah or not.

He said, "I am A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD,' ." (John 1:23, NASB)

He debased himself to just a voice. He could've said a prophet. For Jesus testified that he was a prophet. Better still he could've described himself as the son of the high priest. But no. He Lowered himself to a voice. He wasn't concerned about his name but God's name. He was ready to say "He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30, NASB). Can we repeat that after John? Can we live solely for the glory of God?

I love it when the old evangelist prayed that his name might never be remembered but God's. That he might die with his name. We often times want to live our names on this earth. We are sometimes worried about our names rather than the most glorious name of God. Only God is great. There is none great. I will reserve that word for him alone. He is mighty and worthy of praise and honor. I pray that we would always give him glory forever and ever in all that we do. Let our words always be by God's grace and mercy".
