Living in the Marketplace

One of the places where our faith is most needed is in the public sphere ,yet it is the place where we are most persecuted. Paul in this chapter shares how believers should live in society.

^{Titus 3 :1-2
1.REMIND PEOPLE to be submissive to [their] magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work,
2.To slander or abuse or speak evil of no one, to avoid being contentious, to be forbearing (yielding, gentle, and conciliatory), and to show unqualified courtesy toward everybody.}

The call to remind them means it is not a new teaching but something of importance that needed to be emphasized. They were to be reminded first of their relationship to leaders in the marketplace and with everybody.

In relating to leaders, the believers were expected to be obedient or submissive and to be ready for every good work. To be ready for every good work tells of the believer's obedience in the marketplace. That is whatever that will not bring glory to God is not to be negotiated for the Christian faith. We are to pray for leaders and join them in doing whatever is good and excellent.

On the other hand, in relating to everyone the believer is not to slander anyone, and should avoid quarrelling. Instead, they should be gentle and demonstrate true humility to everyone. Thus, the believer in the public sphere must seek to show an honest estimate of himself before God.

A truly spirit filled Christian is an asset to any organization and a great instrument in God's kingdom. But the marketplace today has a short supply of this kind of Christian.
