REACHING TO THE PEAK OF YOUR CAREER IS GOD'S WILL FOR YOU

Introduction

The top is God’s intention for any child of God who lives in relationship with him. God had never created anyone to be a failure or a mediocre. God still says:

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am vine ye are the branches. He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me, ye can do nothing” (John 15:4, 5).

Since God is not a failure, rather a successful business man and bearing much fruits, no less is He expecting from his very own who are His children. This paper will therefore discuss few principles for any child of God to reach the peak of his career option in a Godly way.

What is a career?

Career is an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress. It is a profession; employment, line of work or a walk of life.

Key terms on Career

Career skills: this is the sum total of one’s marketable or occupational abilities, experiences and knowledge that makes one grow within a career line.

Career Planning: this is a consciously structured exercise undertaken to identify one’s objectives, marketable skills, strengths and weakness etc. as a path of one’s careers management.

Career Stages: this is identifiable and evaluatable periods in one’s work life which are distinguished by one’s changing activities, concerns, motives and needs.

Career Ladder: career ladder is a structured sequence of job positions through which a person progresses in an organization.

Career Exploration: is a process in which individual chooses an education path or training or a job which fits their interests, skills and abilities towards a chosen career.

Career Pathing: is a sequence of jobs along which one may be promoted within an organization or progresses in one’s career.

Career Information: career information is any text (in any media) that seeks to assist in the career development process of individuals by providing general information about career as developmental process that reflect the personal values and experiences of the individual, as well as specific information about education and training pathways, labour market trends and industry and occupation data.

The principles of reaching the top on any career:

1. Prov. 3:5-8 – Trust in the lord with all thing heart, and lean not with thine own understanding.

Success comes from God. It is only trusting and abiding in him that can produce fruits and success. Psalm 75:6-7 adds that;

Promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south, but God is the judge: He puteth down one and setteth up another.

There should be absolute dependence on God.

2. Find your career focus – self Awareness:

Self insight is the key to empowered career planning and decisions about our work and life. We can improve our sense of direction and purpose through self-review. You’ll assess major achievements, skills, values, goals and develop personal mission statement. Aligning these with your present work, career direction, performance review and learning goals create energy, excitement and success. Know yourself, believe in yourself and follow the heart. Do SWOT Analysis of your life at each point in time.

3. organizational Awareness:

One needs to understand the business goals and need. Ask the relevant questions like – How does my work contribute to the organizational goals and objectives? What are the available changes and challenges? What are further training skills and technological advancements that will help me?

4. build Relationships:

Building positive relationships and partnership is the single most important factor today to personal, career and organizational success. With work and organizations changing so rapidly, and with the global business environment and technological influences, there is an urgent need to be better, faster and smarter in building relationships. This principle is about improving relationships and communication; developing our personal and social competence skills, and valuing individual’s diversity. No single tree makes a forest.

5. Pursue Excellence through diligence: Prov. 22:29.

If one must reach to the top, there must be a conscious plan, desire and hunger for excellence. Excellence is never obtained on the surface. It is an attribute obtained through hard work, diligence and focus. It takes determination to be above all others and not to be among the crowd. Excellence stands out and excellent spirit is from the Lord. Seek and pursue it.

Note: Excellence is not perfection. Be willing to make mistakes, but learn from them and avoid some mistakes, subsequently. Determine not to quit

6. Do as unto the Lord: Colossians 3:22-25

“Servants obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye service, as men pleases, but in singleness of heart, fearing God. And whatever ye do, do it heartily as to the Lord, and not unto men, knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he has done, and there is no respect of persons.

7. Honour the Lord with your substance: Prov. 3:9-10:

Honour the Lord with thy substance and with the first fruit of all thine increases; so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall bust out with new wine. Give to God and pay your tithes.

8. Submission, Humility and Accountability:

Success often times puffs up and therefore pride sets in. where there is pride, a fall with certainly set in. there is therefore a necessity for submission and humility at all points in one’s life. Be ready to have someone you could submit to and be accountable.

Know also that at the end of it all, you shall be accountable to God – Eccl. 11:9; 12:13.

Conclusion

God meant every bit of his statement which He said in Deut. 28:13:

“And the Lord shall make thee the Head, and not the tail; and thou shall be above only, and thou shall not be beneath, if thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them” the lord shall watch over his words to perform it. And whatsoever you do shall prosper.
