Four Horsemen of apocalypse - What do they mean?

Os 4 cavaleiros.jpg

A cordial greeting to all my friends of steemit, this time I will touch on a topic that is of great relevance when we hear the name of one of the most revealing books of the Bible that is Apocalypse, and there is mention of the topic that today I bring that it is about: The Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the four knights that are described in the first part of the sixth chapter of the Apocalypse. The chapter speaks of a parchment in the right hand of God that is sealed with seven seals, in that scenario Jesus opens the first four seals of the seven, freeing these riders who ride great horses white, red, black and bay. According to the critical interpretation this represents and are allegories of victory or conquest, war, hunger and death, respectively, although only the latter is designated by this name.

Although the riders are briefly described in the book, their importance originates in the number of artistic representations and generally in the influence they had on Western culture.

White horse.

First seal of the apocalypse

Riding by the rider of victory.

When he opened the first seal, I heard the first living being, who said: Come. I looked and saw a white horse, and he who rode on it had a bow, and he was given a crown, and he came out victorious, and to win.

Carrying a bow, a weapon to reach great distances, is a representation of what the Christian kingdoms did, supporting and taking evangelization to distant peoples. As an example of what was predicted, the baptism of the German and Slavic peoples or the evangelization of America took place. It came "to win", those victories are the victories of Constantine, Theodosius, Carlos Martel. Those who strengthened and built on the ancient Roman order, the Romanitas, the Christian order that lasted from Constantine to the Emperor Charles V. The millennium that is later narrated in the final part of the Apocalypse.
The details mentioned about the color of the horse and the type of weapon that the rider carries, reveals the testimony of the Church in the first period of Christianity (from the year 31 - 100 AD specifically) which was characterized by its purity of doctrine and the offensive power of the gospel.

Red horse.

Second seal of the apocalypse

Riding by the rider of war.

When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living being saying: "Come." Then another horse came out, red; whoever was riding it was granted peace to be cut off from the earth so that they would slaughter one another; He was given a big sword.

Father Castellani slogans that if the Christian monarchy is dispossessed of his existence, "war or rumors of war" will come as Jesus says. And he adds more saying that this "is the beginning of sorrows" but "it is not yet the end" . Benedict XV in 1917 declared: "Never before has war been seen in the world as the permanent institution of all humanity " And already Castellani warns that seeing two world wars it seems as if the world is preparing for a third.

Black Horse

Third seal of the apocalypse

Ride by the rider of hunger.

When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living being, who said: "Come." I looked, and saw a black horse. The one who mounted it had a scale in his hand.

The third rider rides a black horse and is generally understood as a famine. The rider carries a pair of scales or weighing scales, which indicates the way the bread is weighed during a famine.
Of the four men on horseback, the black horse and its rider are the only ones whose appearance is accompanied by a vocal pronunciation. John hears a voice, not identified, but from the four living beings, which speaks of the prices of wheat and barley, it is also said "but do not harm oil or wine." This suggests that the hunger of the black horse is to increase the price of grain, but without affecting the supplies of oil and wine. One explanation for this is that cereal crops would have been more susceptible in years of famine than olive and vineyard crops; The statement could also suggest a continued abundance of luxuries for the rich, while basic foods like bread are scarce, though not totally depleted. On the other hand, the preservation of oil and wine could symbolize the preservation of the Christian faithful, who use oil and wine in their sacraments.

Bay horse

Fourth seal of the apocalypse

Riding by the rider of death.

When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living being who said: "Come."
I looked, and saw a bay horse. The one who mounted him was called Death, and Hades followed him: and power was given to them over a quarter of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

The fourth and last rider is called death. Of all the riders, it is the only one to whom the text itself explicitly gives a name. Still others apply the names of "pestilence" or "plague" to this gentleman, on the basis of alternative translations of the Bible (such as the Jerusalem Bible). Unlike the other three, it is not described with a weapon or object, instead it is followed by Hades. However, the illustrations of this show mainly that it carries a scythe.
The color of the horse of Death is written as "pale", although "ashen", "light green", and "yellowish green" are other possible interpretations; that is why there are interpretations in which the color can be gray, green, yellow, but always a color indicating the sickly pallor of a corpse.
The beginning of the verse "was given power over a quarter of the earth" may refer only to Death and Hades, or may summarize the role of the four horsemen. Scholars do not agree on this point.

With only four stamps open, the effects of the times have become very large, what would happen if the other three seals were missing, the consequences would be terrible, most likely of all the bad things in the world, something good will come at the end

@STEEMCHURCH

it's correct, thanks for supporting me

Have you considered the 70 AD destruction of Jerusalem as the fulfillment of these prophecies especially given that Rev. 1:1 says they would happen "soon", not hundreds of years later?

Excellent appreciation, I think it could be as you say, taking into account, what is stated in the bible.

I really don't know how to thank you for this post. I really never knew of this until now. Thank you
