The Christian sacrament in which one is anointed with or submerged in water and sometimes given a name. It is also a similar ceremony of initiation, purification or naming. The Bible teaches that when we trust Christ as Savior, we are “baptized” or placed by the Holy Spirit into the Church which is Christ’s Body (Eph. 1:22-23; 1 Cor. 12:13). At the same time we are placed “in the Spirit” which is another way of saying that God’s Holy Spirit indwells us (Rom. 8:9). Without wasting your time, I will like to list and explain the importance of water baptism.

1. A follower of Christ.
I'm the bible it was bold written that Jesus Christ though was without sin humbled himself and got himself baptized. Christ himself has shown us that a a born again Christian, you ought to be baptized and he showed us by being baptized so that we can follow suit.

2. Obedience.
In the holy bible matthew 29:19-20, the Lord gave us all an instruction that we should all be baptized in the name of the father, the son and the holyspirit.

3. Union with Christ.
Being baptized means being in an Union of God and other believers who are embarking on the spiritual journey. Water baptism is a sign and a seal of being in a covenant relationship with God.

4. Expression of faith.
Baptism is an expression of faith for every believer. It also builds the faith in a Christian.

5. Public declaration.
Baptism means confessing your sins and publicly declaring yourself a true follower of Christ and this indeed a foundation for Christians.

6. Having a new life.
Baptism is a sign of new identity. The moment you are step into the water, marks your death and identifies us with the Christ death on the cross for our sins. When we are dipped into the water then and there our old life is washed away and when we are brought out of the water, we're known as a totally different person with a new identity(new name).
