RENDERING OUR SERVICES FOR THE FATHER'S REWARD

It's an honour and I hope to keep making my contributions to ensure that the church would keep growing as our knight has envisioned.

Let's look at Matt 6:1-8

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him

In the scripture above, the bible makes it clear to us that it is not proper for us to practice what we call "eye-service".

Just like the name implies (eye-service), it has to do with a service (good work) done in the presence of others.

The motive behind it is not a genuine one as the person involved only seeks to be recognized and praised by those around.

Probably the person cannot even do the same if left alone or without a praise.

It's just for others to take note that he or she is working, funny enough, once the recognition is done, the individual goes back to his or her normal way of behaviour.

This is such a bad practice and should be stopped by whosoever that is involved.

Last week Friday the knight of knights was talking about freedom and asking us our views on what freedom was.

Personally there is nothing greater than being free, living freely,you don't do things to please others or live a regimented kind of life.

Jesus warns his disciples in our passage today about doing their act of righteous just to be noticed by men.

It is rather sad that these people will not receive any reward "from our father who is in heaven"

Hypocrites are people who wear different masks to act varying roles.

Just like we see in the passage, it also applies in giving, some of us give to others and then we see the need to announce it to the whole world just to be praised.

Scripture makes us understand that when anyone who gets involved in such practices,has already gotten his reward here on earth.

And you would agree with me that the earth appraisals and reward cannot be compared to the heavenly blessings of our father.

So let's learn to stop doing things in other to be praised.

There is nothing as good as being a silent and cheerful giver.

Do things because you want to, because you can be a helping hand to others and because you enjoy what you do.

When you do this, our father in heaven rejoices and surely your blessings awaits you.

I pray that the lord would grant us more insight and a deeper revelation of his word!
