Sure Word
2 Peter 1:19
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.”
The apostle Peter in 2 Peter 1:16-18 described his eye-witness account of what happened on the Mount of Transfiguration, how that Jesus was transfigured right before him, John and James, and how that they saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. They saw the cloud of glory over and around Jesus and themselves, and were literally overwhelmed by the glory of God. They wanted to dwell there for the beauty and glory of what they had seen.
Then, they heard the voice of the Lord from majesty on high saying, ”This is my beloved Son: in whom lam well pleased; hear ye him.” Now, here is the Apostle Peter's point: as glorious as that encounter was, as spectacular as it seemed, as supernatural or heart-throbbing as the voice that they heard was, there is something basic to covet and take heed to, which is the Written Word of God. He calls it a more sure Word of prophecy, which is basic for us all.
He went on to say that we ought to give heed to the basic prophetic utterance by the prophets, documented in the Word for us as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in our hearts.
We can have multiplied encounters with God through the Written Word. As we meditate on the Word and take heed to it, it begins to shine brighter in our hearts by the day, until the day star and the day dawn arise in us.
What does this mean?
It simply means that the day star and the day dawn are in the Written Word. The Scriptures contain for us deep and perfect encounters with God.
The level to which we give heed to and practice the Scriptures is the level to which we experience God. We are admonished to give heed to it, until the light of God shines perfectly bright within us. Hallelujah!
Beloved, the light of who God is can shine in its perfect form in our hearts. Encounters with God await you in the Scriptures. God wants to reveal Himself to you from the Scriptures.
Now, the Spirit of God speaks expressly, showing us the Scriptures and all that God has reserved for those who love Him. Give yourself to studying and praying the Scriptures daily.
God will perform all that He has spoken to us through the prophets. Indeed we have a more sure Word of prophecy, and We prosper as we give heed to it, until the day star and day dawn arise in our hearts. Amen!
