Healing- Gods promises to us
INTRODUCTION
The Fall of man through sin did not only separate him from God, but exposed him to sickness and disease. He lost that nature that is immune to body and mind afflictions. It became obvious that only the divine could intervene in the matter of the health of man. God’s plan and promises for man were not just to redeem him, but also to provide healing for his body and mind. This is amazing! This study shall help you to remember or know the promise of God in relation to healing.
Focus on this bible chapters: Exodus 15:22-26; Matthew 4:23-25; Psalm 103:1-5
Exodus 15:26
“And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”
Meaning of Healing
The Hebrew words translated as “healing” are marpe, arubah, and chabash which mean curing, restoring to a sound state of health. Similarly, the Greek words therapeuo, iama, iaomai are also translated as heal, healing. “Healing” is the process of making or becoming healthy again. It is a state of being made whole. It encompasses all the processes of restoration, wellness, wholeness of the body and the mind (Isaiah 53:5; Jeremiah 30:17).
God’s Promise for Healing
God’s promise for healing is specific and direct: “. . . I am the LORD that healeth thee” (Exodus 15:26). He assured us that He will not put diseases on us as was the case of the Egyptians.
Similarly, God’s promise for healing is proactive: “. . . I will take sickness away from the midst of thee” (Exodus 23:25). Also, His promise of healing is expressed in His person and presence wherever He is (Acts 10:38). “. . . the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” (Luke 5:17)
Dimensions of God’s Promises of Healing
Healing of all Sicknesses and Diseases: God sent Jesus Christ His Son to suffer and die for our healing: “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5)
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)
Healing of Demonic Oppression: God’s promise of healing includes all forms of demonic oppression suffered by man (Luke 9:1). This is particularly very important as medical science cannot address this health condition. “And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils . . . And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils.” (Mark 1:32-34) See also Acts 10:38; 19:12.
Healing of Special Health Conditions: God’s promise for healing is not limited to “normal” types of sicknesses and diseases (Acts 4:9; 14:8): It also covers all uncommon health conditions and infirmities, no matter how severe and chronic. Examples include dumbness and deafness (Mark 7:31-37); blindness (John 9:1-30); chronic bleeding (Mark 5:25-34); and leprosy (Luke 17:11-19).
Raising of the Dead back to Life: God’s promise to heal extends to raising the dead back to life. Numerous examples of such miracles include the son of the widow at Zarephath (1 Kings 17:17-24); Lazarus who was dead for four days (John 11:1-45); and Eutychus (Acts 20:7-12).
