Spiritual Suicide Vol.1 | Definition and Causes.
Definition
Spiritual suicide is the act of intentionally causing ones own spiritual death. That is the act of killing slowly that part of oneself that is associated with the feelings, mind and also the killing of real meaning or significance in ones life. It's also defined as the act of destroying ones usefulness for God.
Causes of Spiritual Suicide
- Refusal to hear and obey the word of God:
“He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.”(Proverb 28:9 ; KJV)
The word of God is power, we all know this. Therefore, when you are busy blocking every means, every channel, every link to hearing the word of God in your life, like refusal to study the Scripture, no more going for church services, and even ignoring those ready to peach to you, means you are as well depriving yourself of God's power to function, and this will inevitably leads to ones spiritual death. Or you are even the one that heareth the word of God but refuse to put it into practice, thus making His word fruitless in your life.
- Denial of God's Salvation:
Denying yourself of God's salvation means purposely turning your back against God even though He sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Even though He is always beckoning on us to come to Him, even though He is ever ready to forgive all our sins. Ignoring him despite all these offers is nothing but spiritual suicide.
- Habitual sin:
When you please the Lord, you can make your enemies into friends. (Proverbs 16:7 ; (Good News Translation)
Are you the one that now that sees sin as a normal things, as in sin is now a day to day routine; fornication, masturbation, killing, stealing, persecuting others, etc., nothing seems evil about them to you anymore. This is a great sign that you are spiritually dead.
- Backsliding:
“They are doomed! They have left me and rebelled against me. They will be destroyed. I wanted to save them, but their worship of me was false. (Hosea 7:13 ; Good News Translation).
The spirit of God was once very active in you. In fact, everyone once knew you as someone who didn't joke with the things of God. Then, you were always the first in church, in fact You would never missed any of the week programs. But all of a sudden, you stopped going to church, you are no longer that fire carrier everyone knew you to be. You are now fond of breaking God's law anyhow.
- Mingleness with Evil People
Do not be fooled. “Bad companions ruin good character.”(1 Corinthians 15:33 ; Good News Translation)
A popular adage go thus: "Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are" So, to you reading this, beware of the company you keep. Evil friends will eventually teach you to follow their evil ways of life. In fact, some of them will even try to justify it for your. I so much urge you all to stay away from evil friends, as they will end up ruining our spiritual lives.
- Prayerlessness:
The Bible, in the book of 1 thessalonians 5:17 urge us to always pray at all times. A prayerless life is like a cell phone with a dead battery, as there will be nothing to power it. It will lack functions, so also is someone living without a constant prayer life. Such person will be dead spiritually making him prone to enemies attack.
