As a believer what comes to your mind whenever you hear the word of God? For most believers, the Word of God is beyond just word. It is not just a bunch of alphabets put together to make a sentence, they are not just printed on a page for anyone to read and act as if they are reading the usual literature. For those who are not in the faith, the word of God might be a mere expression of thoughts, but to every believer of Christ Jesus, the Word of God is an authority, alive and active. The Word is used of both the Bible and the person Jesus. His word manifested through Christ Jesus.

The word of God is powerful and sharper than two edge sword. The bible is the most powerful, unique and inspirational book ever written, the writers of the bible were inspired by the Holy Spirit with God as the only Author. From the time of creation, God has been interested in communicating with His children. He wants us to be able to have a personal relationship with Him through His word. His word is there to guide, teach and lead us to this relationship. It reveals His plans towards us and contains every aspect of life & loaded with information.

Just in case you are still wondering what it does and how you can benefit from it. There are so many benefits of God giving us His word. Here are some of them;

It's a manual:
This isn't new that whenever you want to acquire any knowledge on something, you will definitely need a manual on that thing for a better understanding and guide. These manuals are written by the markers/manufacturers of that which you want to learn. Most times, these manuals are not thrown away no matter what because you would want to go back to it. Now, for every believer of Christ Jesus, the word of God is a manual which we operate from, but unlike the other manuals where you might no longer need it or you are used to the instructions. The word of God it's so deep that you will need to keep it forever to acquire more and more knowledge & have an in-depth knowledge of the word.

A means of communication:
God is so much interested in communicating with His children. He is interested in everything we do for as long as we live. The word of God is one of the ways in which God communicates to us. He speaks to us directly through His word and we can also do same. Our God is a good communicator He has been able to convey His plans, principles, standards to us through His word.

The word brings comfort & Hope:
Well, we live in a world where there are so much discomfort and hopelessness and as believers, sometimes we find ourselves in such situations, but the word of God will always bring us comfort and hope. Although in situations like this, most believers might find it hard to study the word, the truth is, the word of God is what we need at moments like that. Let's not forget there are verses for every situation which will bring comfort to our soul and usher us back to the supremacy of God.

A strong weapon against the enemy:
The bible says at the mention of the name Jesus every knee shall bow. The word is a strong weapon that no enemy can stand. It is a powerful weapon that can stop every vice of the devil. The bible says light and darkness has nothing in common. Resist the devil & he will flee. We can do this with the Word of God.

The word leads to salvation:
Salvation is free to all! As many as those who accept Jesus as their Lord and master is free from condemnation. Believing in Christ Jesus is believing in the word. The bible says knowing the truth shall set us free. The word is the truth which brings us to salvation in Christ Jesus.

As believers, you will agree with me that the word of God is very important, but surprisingly, some believers find it hard to effectively study the word. Here are 7 ways you can get a grasp on God's word.

Praying:
The word of God has nothing to do with the flesh. The bible is not just like every normal book you read probably because the author used a very simple English that anyone can understand. Whenever we want to study & learn His word, we need to pray. We ask the Holy Spirit to help teach us and make us understand. The Holy Spirit is a great teacher and only through the spirit that we can learn & understand God's word.

Reading:
This is an important way of knowing God. Starting your day with the word is an opportunity to take control of the day. There are so many morning devotion booklets written by great men of God with bible verses for each day. You can get such books as a guide on the verse/passage to read for the day or you can get a reading partner. Daily reading of the word of God nourishes the soul and gives that confidence that you need to go into the world.

Listening:
When we listen attentively to the word of God we learn from it. There are different ways of listening to God's word, we can listen to online messages via YouTube, live programs, church sermons, video and audio of God's servants. This is very helpful especially for those with a very busy schedule. You can listen on your way to work or anytime you are free and not in the position to read at that moment.

Studying:
In order to learn, you have to read & study. To study is to have a deeper knowledge of what you've read for a better understanding. Studying the word of God is a great way of knowing Him and establishing a personal relationship with Him. Of course, no one can have a relationship with a stranger.

Memorizing:
This simply means storing the word of God in your mind. There are times you might not have the bible around, but if you have them stored in your heart then you are good to go. By storing God's word, you can begin to have the mind of Christ and see things from His views. In every situation, you will be able to ask yourself what would Christ do in that particular situation. In order to memorize a verse, you have to read it and feel every sense of it. Recite as many times you can to register it in your mind.

Meditating:
Meditating is to have a deep thought of the word of God. You try to digest & ponder about it then bring it to live concerning every situation in your life. Meditation is paying attention to every single detail of a particular verse or passage, asking questions and in the process, the Holy Spirit will swing into action.

Applying:
As believers, the word of God is a guide on how to walk with God, worship, service to Him and how to relate with humans. How can we apply the word of God to our lives? This simply by obeying His commandments, standards, and principles. Applying is believing what you have read or heard knowing fully well it is the truth and can save you as well.
