EVERY HEART IS A FERTILE GROUND FOR THE WORD OF GOD TO GROW

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Before we take a jump into this post let's ask ourselves one or two quick questions and rate how well we are doing. How many of us out here are well grounded with the word of God?, how many can boast of having a wonderful and exciting relationship with God?, yes I said exciting because every single fellowship with God is filled with an exciting journey that leaves us with a wealth of experience, but how can each of us not have a tightly knit relationship with God in this unpredictable world we live in.

The word of God teaches us to have faith in God we are made to understand from Matthew 17:20

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Now, have we as Christians thought what we can achieve when we are able to grow our faith to a level bigger than a mustard seed, perhaps to a watermelon size? This can only be done through persistent communion and fellowship with God by studying the word of God. Many times we are faced with a challenge that tests our faith and relationship with God and we see ourselves failing because we do not have the courage and enough faith to face such challenge. St Paul teaches us to walk by faith and not by sight in

Corinthians 5:6—10

We are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord. Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.
And by walking with faith in communion with Jesus Christ we are given the opportunity to allow our hearts to become fertile grounds for the mustard seed (word of God) to grow. This word of God teaches us the following;

it teaches us to differentiate between good and evil

According to the psalmist in Psalms 119:11

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

One who is in constant fellowship with God is filled with the spirit of God and the spirit of God teaches us what to do and what not to do, how to live out the word of God by living exemplary lives, how to relate with friends so as not to hurt them, it is in the doing that we bear fruits of the Holy spirit.

it gives us understanding

The word of God helps us as Christians who are trying to become better people by giving us understanding this is pointed out in
Psalms 119:100

I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. And another passage encourages us to trust God to give us understanding and rely less on our human abilities as seen in
Proverbs 3:5-8
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones.

The verse from proverbs says it shall be health to our navel and marrow to our bones that means the more we draw closer to God the more he fills us with positive things.

it helps us to overcome temptation

As Christians we are faced daily, with several temptations (me included), but the extent of our fellowship with God and knowledge of the word can help us through that period of temptation.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

This passage makes us understand that we can be able to overcome whatever temptations we are faced with you know why? Because God gives us the exact temptation that matches our strength or is beneath our strength.

James 1:12-18

Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted with evil and he himself tempts no one; but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin; and sin when it is full-grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

This passage crowns it all it tells us there is joy in overcoming temptation and that after the trials have passed we will be given a crown of glory... Don't you want that? It also mentions that we shouldn't blame the temptations that we face on God because God himself tempts no one, finally the Bible also advices us to 'flee' from all occasions of sin or all occasions that can lead us to temptation.

In all how can we effectively increase our faith and allow the word of God yield fruits in us by;

Constant study of the word of God (Romans 10:17)

So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ.

Acting out the word of God (James 1:22-24)

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.

If we stop at just hearing the word alone and not acting it out our faith would remain stagnant, hence instead of being a hearing Christians why not be a doing Christian

Fellowship with the brethren (Acts 2:42, Ephesians 5:19)

Regular meetings with believers help us to strengthen our faith and helps us to grow more and more with the knowledge of the word of God.
In conclusion, everyone is a fertile ground for the word of God to dwell because we were created for Him, it all takes personal decision on whether or not we want to work with God. As the normal saying goes practice makes perfect, little by little we would get better even when we may fall into temptation it's never too late to pick yourself up and move on.
