Greetings to all steemians! hope we all had a great day and are doing just fine as always by His grace.
I attended a seminar today with Plan international which was very educative, and i will like to share with you some of the things we discussed.
Topics discussed were based on the following:
- Safeguarding and PSEA
- Stages of Child development
- Prevention of covid-19
- Child Protection
- Gender Base Violence (GBV)
I will like to share with you about Gender Base Violence (GBV).
Before we define GBV, we will try to differentiate between SEX and GENDER.
In simple terms, Gender is how the society sees you while Sex is biological ie how you were born either a male or a female
What is GBV?
It is defined as any harmful act that is likely to results in physical, sexual or psychological harm on a woman or man base on their gender.
Causes of GBV
Some of the roots causes of GBV include the following:
Gender Inequality
Power Imbalance
patriarchy ( man being a man)
Abuse of human rights
poverty
-Drug AbuseReligious
Cultural
Forms of GBV
We are going to see some common forms of GBV
1-Rape. This is the most common form of GBV in our world today. Many people be it a man, woman, girl or boy child are suffering today because they were raped.
#. Rape can be defined as forcefully penetration of the vagina, anus,mouth ears, with a penis or other body parts without the consent of the individual.
2- Sexual Assault
3- physical violence
4-Harmful traditional practices
5-Psychological and emotional violence
6-Denial of resources
Consequences of GBV
We will also look at the consequences of GBV:
1- Dead
2-Seperation
3- Divorce
5-Disability
6-poverty
7- Depression
8- Trauma
Conclusion:
In order to conclude, we should try to report any GBV Case to the right authorities. By so doing, we will have fewer or No cases of GBV in our society.
