SteemBasicIncome Is Not As Useful As You Think

in #steembasicincome6 years ago (edited)

So folks I know some of you may have heard of or even are using Steem basic income's upvote service to help with your accounts. This program is a social experiment run by @steembasicincome and its administrators; it seeks to Provide all steemians with basic income from posting. In order to become a member of this experiment you have to pay @steembasicincome 1steem and give the name of another user to be sponsored in with you. its a pretty straightforward program where when you and a friend are sponsored in you will gain the upvote of one of the @steembasicincome bots. now once you are a member you recieve lifetime upvotes from the seem basic income profiles.

All of that is awesome until you realize you just paid 1 steem for a 0.02 upvote (on posts no comments) that could possibly decrease for various reasons. From my experience with @steembasicincome I can say that it is NOT WORTH IT to pay for a service like this when there are folks like @neoxian who wull delegate you 115 steem for 7 days per 1 steem. this delegation can be used to increase the upvote amounts on posts AND comments which means it actually has the potential to be profitable and helpful. @steembasicincome however is dependent on how many times you post and every post recieves a lower vote than the previous vote if they fall on the same 24 hr cycle. They do a great job at marketing but if you look at steemblock explorer the you will see that the users with a few shares are only recieving maybe 0.05 value upvotes or less.

The @steembasicincome program has become very popular with up to six profiles upvoting thousands of users. Many of thee users have no idea it will take them over 50 posts to get a return on their investment. Making such a bad investment will end up hurting you and only helps the creators of @steembasicincome. I mean lets face it why spend 1 steem on something that has no real value.

my verdict is that @steembasicincome is a failed experiment that is only still running because it is profitable for its creators. Plese show me how this program is useful for steemit users when it literally only offers you a trickle of pennies in exchange for your STEEM. I reccomment checking out some of the real basic income programs such as mannabase which shows real promise as a cryptocurrency based basic income that asks for NOTHING from you. If you are an @steembasicincome user or representative id like to hear your opinions on your long ROI. I ask this because you cost the user money that takes a long time to recover which is not a part of basic income philosophy it actually makes you all seem pretty scammy.

I personally won't be wasting STEEM on @steembasicincome shares and I hope you choose not to either. This program is far from useful and has many steemians fooled

While one steem will take a long time to earn back, like you said 0.02 per vote isn’t worth it, but if you make sure you upvote all of @steembasicincome posts with 100% you will double your shares every 28 days which will help you earn your ROI back quicker.

doing this you must then compensate for the fact that you are in effect spending upvotes that could be used for you just to create a small increase in the @steembasicincome share weight. that same effort could be used to power up with bought delegations which will actully be profitable.

my main qualm is that it calls itself a basic income program but behaves more like a multilevel marketing scheme. the owners profit and the users have to struggle or jump through hoops to actually earn anything. it was a good experiment that shows people have an interest in basic income programs.

Fair enough, however since I am already in it I will keep upvoting their post. I don’t have much right now in steem so I won’t be paying fo more share

im in the same boat lol. keep your eyes peeled for a basic income program from @yensesa and also check out mannabase if you havent already!

I thought @yensesa was more for africans that need the money, and I have a manna base account already thank you.

Thanks for the question @cryptojiang. Currently Yensesa is focused on the African community, but this does not mean we might not extend across the globe. We will keep updating the community on our progress and be on the watch out for yensesa.

okay thank you @yensesa I’ll keep an eye out1

Thats great I am happy to see you are so engaged within the basic income community!

It's a pity that @masterroshi has wasted so much money on bid bots for this post and completely buried the actual responses.

but he has already stated that he is only here to make money. He's lucky that SBI isn't like the whale bid bots he is using that would obliviate his account if he posted a similar article about their services.

@masterroshi, wait 7 days for payout and calculate the value of payout on this post compared to what you spent for promotion. Then come back with the actual ROI. Did you know that most bid-bot users lose money most of the time? Checking to see if each bidding round was profitable at that time isn't good enough. You also have to see whether you are losing value before you actually receive payout.

i have made post about bidbots positive and negative before. they have never attacked me for it so im not sure what you are talking about. at the end of the day this post is about how i feel about my experience with SBI. so i appreciatenyou trying to protect its reputation in the eyes of my readers but I stand by the fact that the program is useless and 1 steem is too high a price for the value that you provide in return.

and using the old bidbots are the worse argument is not going to change anything. nor will this article you all will still get an unceasing flow of sign ups regardles of one minnows displeasure so stfu and move along.

I recently won a share and have so far got 0.05 SBD on each post. So for me it is definitely worth it. And I am also interested in basic income on both a local and global level so I find this very interesting.

i was brought into the program in a simular way but after sponsoring 3 more people into the program my vote actually decreased.

it makes sense if you spend nothing to join SBI then you stand to gain automatically. It was an interesting experiment but its variables make ut unconvincing from my point of view. check mannabase out if you are interested in learning more about basic income.

my main point is that if you spend steem on a membership its upvote is minuscule and you would be better off buying a delegation. it is not a basic income program but more like a MLM where you pay or do other "work" to recieve benefits on a disproportiante basis. this program deviates from the fundamental aspect of Basic income. it sets a god example for how popular the concept of basic income is with the masses but this program is more MLM that basic income.

It's hard to understand how you categorize it as mlm when 60% of members were sponsored into it by others and have never paid in at all.

I admit it's not as profitable as upvoting yourself 34% but you're the expert there. My own self vote has never been so high.

i am stating opinion from experience, i was not aware that the majority of members were sponsored in. I was not and thst is the point of view that I am expressing. I paid to be apart of a program for upvotes and when I paid more i got less in return that is my issue. id rather self vote my own comments an content than waste steem on a product that in my experience give diminishing returns.

PS. I'm here to make money so there have been times my self-vote has been higher than 34%!

You can speak from opinion, but we speak from data and from the public record of what we have officially published from the SBI account. Steem Basic Income was not designed to make you rich.

The idea and philosophy behind basic income is to provide a basic level of support. On Steem, that means helping members to exceed the dust threshold and provide enough support to help prevent people from getting discouraged.
Since we're not rich (and not getting rich from it), the ROI and structure as investment (where you receive shares when you sponsor others) is to provide enough incentive to encourage people to sponsor others in and fund a basic level of support for Steemians that they perceive to create quality content.

I'm sorry that you completely missed the philosophy of Steem Basic Income, along with completely missing everything about how it works, or the fact that upvote values would be strongly correlated to the market prices of STEEM/SBD, even though we have stated that every single time we talk about about value per share.

Given that more than 60% of members were sponsored in by the other less than 40%, that we only have 12 members with @steemcleaners flags right now (under investigation), and that the total upvote % going to affiliated accounts, or management, is less than your own self-vote percentage, I would say that we're doing something right.

We've upvoted over 3000 people and the retention among those we have upvoted is significantly higher than the platform average. Can you say that for your upvote history?

passing out pennies isn't encouragement... maybe my opinion would be different if i didnt pay for it myself like most other users apparently that was where I erred.

as I said in my post I find this service useless and i could self vote myself if i wanted .02 cents worth of encouragement lol. i still dont see how my one share earned more than my 3 shares. even if steem value goes down i don't see the upvote dropping from .06 to .02. not when my own upvote only decreased from .04 to .03 when the price dropped.

thanks to you though ive racked up on some self upvotes in these comments :)
