The White House claims that in the event of a major COVID-19 outbreak this fall, the government must preserve the supply it has left if Congress does not approve new funding for at-home COVID tests.For the majority of 2022, the Biden administration has been urging Congress to approve additional funding for the COVID fight, but efforts have stalled.
In the spring, a $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill was only approved after COVID-19 funding was eliminated completely.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attributed the lack of COVID-19 funding in a letter to coworkers on March 9 to Republicans' insistence that all money be offset by cuts elsewhere, which several Democrats opposed.
As many as 100 million Americans could be infected with COVID-19 this fall and winter, according to the Biden administration.The public health emergency order was also recently extended until January 11, 2023 by the White House.
