TRUE LIFE

JOHN 1:4 – “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men”.

One irony of life is that before many people get to know what is all about, their allotted time on earth is about over. So many people spend their entire time chasing shadows in the guise of living. About the last quarter of 2017, some young men died in mysterious circumstances. One was said to have consumed 40 shots of tequila at a nightclub. He did not make it to the following morning. He was cut short in the prime of his life chasing shadows camouflaged as life. Such people make the word of the Bible ever so concise – “But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives” (1 Timothy 5:6).

What then is true life? True life is embodied in a person, even Jesus. Until we can define ourselves in Him, we have not started living in earnest. Jesus did not mince words when He declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”. True life is in Christ; everything else is shadow. For those who already embraced this life, they can enjoy freedom from fretting issues that occupy the minds of people who are without God. Jesus taught His disciples never to worry about what to eat and drink. They are not to fret about the clothes to put on. Reasoning with them, Jesus said, “Is not the life more than meat, and the body more than raiment?” (Matthew 6:25 KJV). He is the life; and He is of greater value than any material concern in this world. The implication of this is that the One who gave us life is ever ready and willing to give what supports life.
