Think about it. Most of the POS (Proof of Stake) coins require a minimum amount held in your wallet before it will stake (earn interest). You could theoretically start a STEEM / Steemit.com account from nothing and start earning a considerable average income on a regular basis.
Distinction being:
With STEEM, you have to do something (for the most part) to get your "interest" payments. In fact, the more human and cogent your determinations are in terms of voting and comments, the more you'll earn in rewards.
Auto-voting:
I forget the name of the program I joined a few months back, but it's set to upvote a few popular Steem accounts automatically with various power settings. It doesn't drain my power, but it does give me a very modest amount of curation rewards on a regular basis.
What will make success come easy?
You actually being consistent will help. You having a specific topic or theme to all your posts will help. So far, I do neither of these things. Forming alliances will help, as will being in communities. Doing research helps. Help educate the community about a specific coin or perspective.
Use other apps supporting STEEM.
Some may not even understand or be aware this is possible. See lucksacks.com for STEEM based poker (site still in infancy but there are daily freerolls). There's a STEEM version of Agar.io I tried but I don't have the link handy. Oh! D.tube is another great example. Just upload random videos like you would on YouTube but don't worry about having to deal with AdWords and community guidelines.
This stuff can change the game.
