Steem tip #2: How you can easily create a Steem accounts for your friends, so they don’t need to wait for Steemit to confirm their accounts

in #steem8 years ago

When you are signing up for the Steem blockchain through Steemit, you need to wait for Steemit Inc. to confirm your account before you can begin to use it. If you’re lucky this process will only take a day or two, but other users have to wait several weeks before they get in to the website.

It is pretty obvious to me that this is not a good thing when motivated users want to come here and post good content, so in this post I want to share a few ways that you guys can create new accounts for your friends, family or even yourself. By doing this you will get a new account within a matter of seconds, not days or weeks.

Create a new account with Vessel

I always use Vessel for my account management, so this is the tool I would suggest (but I will write about an alterative below). Vessel is a desktop wallet developed by @jesta, the witness with most votes on the Steem blockchain.

Vessel lets you claim rewards, create account, delegate Steem Power, power up and a few other features, so I suggest you check it out even if you don’t plan to create more accounts. To download it, follow this link: https://github.com/aaroncox/vessel/releases. You should also follow @jesta to get the latest information about new releases of the software.

Once you have downloaded and installed Vessel, add your main account to it by using the active key (or higher if you prefer). Look at the picture above to see where you should click to do this.

After having your account attached to Vessel, click on the “Create account” button next to the “Add account”. This will bring up the window you see on the image below.

As you can see, creating an account will cost you 0.2 Steem, and you need to delegate about 14 SP to the newly created account. The thing to keep in mind though is that none of these Steem coins are “lost”, but the 0.2 Steem is given to the new account, and the 14SP that is being delegated can be removed after a while once the new account has gotten some Steem Power of its own.

Anyway, when you hit the button to continue the process, you will get the password and all the keys, so make sure to copy these to a text editor, because you will not be able to retrieve them from Vessel after this point. These keys can be given to your friend, and he/she can change it once they log in to Steemit.

Create an account using Steemconnect

It is also possible to create a Steem account for your friend without having to download Vessel, and you can do this by using Steemconnect. The account creation tool is found at this link, so click on it.

This tool is a bit more difficult to handle, and I only know how to create accounts with Steem, not by delegations. What you need to do is just to type in the username of your new account / the name your friend wants, and copy the password to somewhere safe.

steemconnect.jpg

Now you need to find how many Steem you need to create the account. What you need to do is to go to SteemDB and look for the field called Account Creation Fee. This can change, but it is currently set to 0.2 Steem. However, you need to pay this to all 30 witnesses, so take the number and multiply it by 30. Right now this means that it costs 6 Steem to create the account, but this can change!

Type in this number to the Steem field, and sign into your account to complete the transaction. Once this is done the Steem is taken from your account and given to the new account as Steem Power, so you might want to ask your friend to pay you back at one point, since this will cost you like $30 right now.

There are more methods

There are a few more methods to create a new account on the Steem blockchain, but none of these really offer an advantage over the two I listed, so I suggest that you use either of these. Both tools are created by members of the community that are well-trusted and have a good reputation.

I remember when I first tried to get my account, I was worried something was wrong when it wasn't ready after a two days. I know a few friends who could benefit from this. What I don't get though is that I thought that Steemit only allows you to make 1 account per ip address. I'm guessing this is a loop hole? I've jut been putting all of my together. Should separate themes be kept together and a separate account made for off topic stuff?

Yeah, and imagine how annoyed you would be if it had taken two weeks instead of two days. I'm glad you found this tip useful, and make sure to tell your friends who join about my blog :P hehe

What I don't get though is that I thought that Steemit only allows you to make 1 account per ip address

It's good that you mention this, because I should probably have explained it in the main post. Steemit does only allow 1 account per IP because Steemit Inc. (a company) pays for the account. And they don't want to pay for someone to create lots of different accounts to spam or whatever. This is also why the review takes a long time, since they want to get rid of all fraud and spam account in this phase.

It's important to keep in mind that each account that gets created "costs" about 14 Steem Power in delegations, and Steemit delegates it for 1 month. So if there are 100,000 new users in a month, they have to delegate away 1.4 million SP. Imagine the upvotes from this amount!

Anyway, when you create an account with Vessel of Steemconnect, you yourself "pay" for the delegation and the account creation, so you are therefore free to create as many accounts as you want.

And the most important part to always have in mind when we are using Steemit; Steem does not equal Steemit! Never forget that :)

Thank you @valth , I have been wondering if there was a way around the long waiting period( it recently took a week for my son). You have provided the shortcut I was looking for!

This is a really good idea. I've been talking to quite a few of my friends about the steemit platform and I've had several that were very interested but they seem to get discouraged when they realize that they have to wait several days for their account to be verified. My one friend was really excited about joining because she loves blogging but she submitted all her information about 2 weeks ago and still hasn't heard back. I'm afraid that she's too discouraged to want to try anymore. 🙁

Yeah, this is one of the biggest problem with Steemit these days! I see it all the time on other social medias when we talk about Steem as well, so it's not just your friend who have problems. It is planned to be improved upon in the next hardfork, but this trick should probably be able to help some people out while we wait for the fork :)

It took 7 days for my account confirmation ....
I used to look everyday in my mailbox to check... I wish some friend had done it for me...
Very awesome tip @valth....The best gift to a new commer is to save the waiting period for him....

I'm glad you liked the tip! There is no reason not to invite your friends to join Steemit anymore ;) hehe

The best gift to a new commer is to save the waiting period for him.

I agree! The waiting period is extremely annoying :(

The more we promote steemit, the more great it will become...
Its a win win for everybody...
Have you checked Appbase???

Thumbs Up!! You did a great Job even solved problem of many users who got annoying for huge wait. Nowadays steemit takes approx 7 days to approve steemit account.

This is pretty easy to create account with Vessel. Thank you for detailed procedure about how to create account using Vessel. :)

This tip will be gonna work for all of people since steemit network is growing fastly day by day.

Yes, the wait is extremely annoying! I'm glad you liked the tip :)

It works great, but you need a friend who is already on Steemit for it to work, sadly.

thankyOu for info @valth You're really posted at the time, when I've gonna say joined steemit to my friend. I think it's easy way to create account on Vessel, cause dont take much time to approval.

Yeah, it's really nice and easy to make an account with Vessel :)

this is a great informative post..i introduced steemit to many friends of mine in my dorm and it was a great hassle for me to create accounts for all of them as they knew not much about steemit and how it works.
with vessel it would be alot easier now for me to create accounts for them but the only thing whick can be a barrer for me is the sp as i dont have much of it.

I can see how having to little SP can be a problem when you have lots of friends who want to join. One way to solve it is of course to buy Steem that you can Power Up and delegate away, or have your friends buy Steem directly and create the account by using 6 Steem from Steemconnect. These 6 Steem will be powered up to their new accounts, so they can pay you back later :)

I am happy i found you.. I am learning so many things from you that i dnt knw before.. Yeah it ll be so easy to make new account now.. One more thing can i create 2or 3 mote accounts for my personal use? It ll not be illegal on steemit? As i heard that one user cant make 2 accounts at a time on steemit?

You can create as many accounts as you want :) I have like 6 or 7 that I use for different purposes.

As i heard that one user cant make 2 accounts at a time on steemit?

This is just wrong. Create as many as you like :)

Ok thanx for infrmation.. I ll create soon

Cool! You're welcome :)

wow amazing many of my friends are faceing the approval issue ..i will share this with them thank you so much

I'm sorry to hear that they are having problems with the approval issue. This needs to be fixed very soon, or else the momentum Steem has will die down :(

hope so they fix it soon ...

Yeah, me too! They have a solution in place for hardfork 20, but it seems like this new hardfork is never being released..

okay it look like you are really researching about all these thing i just knew about that

Hehe, well, that happens when I spend all day browsing Steemit :P

hahah .. i got it thats why ... but its good to have knowlage about everythng
