Rewards changing from 75/25 to 50/50
Do you think that the post or video that you created and put effort into should be worth the same as someone pressing the upvote button(or someone on a curation trail auto upvoting anything)?
That is what changing to 50/50 rewards does. Authors get less, while upvoters get more. There have been numerous explanations as to why that "makes sense", but we all know that it doesn't.
Why doesn't it? Because there is no mechanism for "meaningful curation" powered by proof of brain on this blockchain. If there was, then it would make sense for 50/50 rewards. There is literally no incentive built into code for someone to upvote one thing over another.
Could there be? Yeah there could be. What would it look like? Just off the top of my head, it would be people being elected using a similar style of how we vote for witnesses, with multiple elections held, and the same people can't be re-elected until another cycle completes(or maybe 2 cycles later). Those would be "super curators" whose upvote could be worth more and have rules/culture put in place to where they would only upvote content that helps grow the blockchain(and the amount of SP they have would need to be significant so it makes it worth their time for the curation rewards). A 60 USD upvote on a picture of your next color challenge certainly wouldn't qualify, or your actifit bullshit posts.
But don't SteemPower stake holders secure the network and stoof?
Sure, but that doesn't mean they are using their Steem Power in a beneficial way to grow the blockchain. How does giving SteemPower holders more SP from their upvotes ACTUALLY grow the blockchain? Just magically? No seriously, what is the incentive or reason?
50/50 rewards incentivizes people to either: Upvote anything and everything for no rhyme or reason, or join ANY curation trail that is actively upvoting, so that they can just auto earn money.
Under 75/25 the incentive was to create posts and comments so that you can upvote your own posts and comments, now you don't even need to do that or put in any work to write a post or comment, just upvote anything. Because your upvote under 50/50 rewards gets you the same reward.
It will be interesting to see the numbers of posts and comments per user go down over time due to this change.

Just watch any post. 14m55s there are few votes
15m bunches of votes.
Humans just don't do that.
So, someone like me who hand votes / currates, and writes well thunked about posts loses both ways under 50/50.
But, this move seemed inevitable from the majority of the stake holders seeming to become nothing more than bidbots. It works for them.
What really sucks is the plankton voters, the people that would read and comment on posts don't have enough vote-power to get curration rewards. And, this is the group that needs the 50/50.
Yeah, a change adopted by numerous tribes which has definitively demonstrated that it is better than 75/25 for rewarding content, which is aimed directly at incentivized organic curation as opposed to content indifferent bidbot delegations, is actually an inevitable move to more content indifferent bidboting.
