Stick em up! Give me the coins in your wallet!

I just read a great NY Times article by Nathaniel Popper titled Bitcoin Thieves Threaten Real Violence for Virtual Currencies. It discusses many instances of real life criminals robbing people for their crypto. Click the link below to read the full article.

This should be an awakening for many. The danger is real. When you have something people want, there's always someone who wants to take it from you. The danger here is that a vast fortune can be irreversibly transferred quickly with ease.
If you have a massive crypto fortune, please protect yourself. The easiest way to do so is not to let anyone know about the fortune you hold. If no one knows you have it, no one can try to take it.
The article discusses other ways to protect yourself such as the use of a multiple signature wallet. It also mentions using a decoy wallet that does not hold the bulk of your funds. This way if you were being held at gun point you could send them all the funds in your decoy wallet and laugh at the robbers later as you still have a majority of your funds.
Of course converting your crypto funds to Steem Power is a good way to protect yourself. Even though it's easy for someone to see how much Steem Power you hold, it would be hard for them to steal from you. Even if someone held a gun to your head and demanded your password, it would be hard for them to steal more than 1/13th of your Steem Power as the powering down process pays out in 13 equal weekly payments. Plus you will be able to reap all the benefits of Steem Power!
There are many ways to protect yourself and it's my hope that everyone keeps their funds and theirselves safe. If you have been fortunate enough to make a fortune in crypto, please be smart enough to protect yourself.
Thanks for reading!

articles that interesting and informative, of course we must be careful with the various crimes of the present, both using cyberspace tricks and real style hasty, for example fraud via short messages and via phone. thanks to the article @themightyvolcano

thanks for the info and the link. security is my 1st concern. I don't have a lot and it took some doing to accumulate what I have. Like everyone I don't want to loose any.

Hi, you are right! Being able to transfer big sums of money quickly and easily also can have its drawbacks... I someone has lots of crypto, he or she should certainly think about the security aspect.
For me it is soothing, that having no crypto fortune can also have its advantages. hehe
