New Users and Witness Voting

Witness Voting

The average user does not realise they can have an impact on the blockchain by using their 30 votes to support witness who basically run and confirm the transactions and payouts for everyone.

USE YOUR VOTE! IT MATTERS

Why do people not vote for Witnesses?

  • Unaware how to vote
  • Do not see it having any affect (I'm just a powerless reaction)
  • No pressure to vote or incentive
  • An average user unaware of Witnesses most likely do not attempt to view posts on the #witness-category
  • At first you were unable to see more than the first 50 Witnesses on the Witness page( This one was why I didn't use all my votes for sure! ) - Now you can see 100 witnesses, which is fairer but still omits new Witnesses.

Suggestions to Decrease the Unused and wasted vote count

  • There should be more exposure with minnows that they can support the witnesses who are doing the work and projects that they use and enjoy. The user currently has to use third party sites like www.steemdb.com to view data (which your average user will not ever be interested in. They want it simple and quick)
  • Many have ridiculed the UI on Steemit - But having Witness integration to the "Trending,New,Hot and promoted menus" seems to be the most important of them all - Especially since it is beneficial to the blockchain.

Witness Unvoting

Unvoting a witness is just as important as deciding who to spend your 30 votes on. Finding a cause is the most crucial and simplest way to decide. In the cases when a Witness doesn't represent what you support then its just as easy to view the witness page and untick their witness position.

I'm sure many of you are aware of the odd and worrying video that Jerry Banfield posted. The initial reaction when I saw the responses of users in full outrage and disgust but wanted to make my own view on the matter.

First, to actually record that video and then watch it back and still consider posting to the internet let alone on the Steem blockchain is very worrying indeed - The judgement values that Jerry represents is questionable.

The most important point is not the content but that he gained so many Witness votes and support from the users and has lost a large amount is a relatively small time period. This proves that there are a vast amount of users who do care and pay attention to what occurs in the community.

What I want from the Steem Blockchain

  1. Ability for people to have a fair trading/income where their local currency may not offer much
  2. Building sub communities with common interests to feel connected to users across the world!
  3. Software developers building innovative applications that improve the reach and vision of open source technologies.

To Vote

You can select the arrow on the left of the user in the top 100 list or type the Steem username in the box at the bottom of the page and hit Vote

Whatever your interests are there are witnesses that are currently working on these issues that also are their focus. Currently Steemit is still in "Beta" and improvements are on everyone's mind - please share yours!

True, many users are not aware of this witness voting thing, and a little sensitization, and awareness creation is certainly important. Personally i have already used, if i remember well, 20 of my witness votes, and have a couple more....

Thanks for raising this pertinent issue. I hope post gets reaches out to more newbies, and they get to cast their votes, and have their say!

For the average user that is concerned with posting some content and earning rewards the witness concept is really non-existent. Once they realise they have votes and WHY they should vote I think it might allow new users to stay engaged with the blockchain.

Thanks for commenting!

True, which is why articles such as yours here really come handy.
