STEEM Is Cutting Edge: Steemit And DataWallet In Agreement: Steemians Will Be Able To Sell Their Own Data (IF THEY WANT)!!!

in #steem7 years ago

The good news just keeps coming.

I wrote a piece the other day about how Steem is the blockchain that I feel is ahead of everyone else. There is so much going on here that it was able to surpass all the other blockchains. I also stated there is the possibility for Steem to push itself further ahead of the pack if it keeps innovating.

It was brought to my attention last night by @preparedwombat that Steemit and DataWallet entered into an agreement to partner up. This alliance is going to allow Steemians the ability to monetize their data. This was a promise of blockchain, the breaking away from the mega-corporations who pilfered our data and sold it for their own profit.

The new Datawallet app, available now for download on iOS and Android, allows users to curate an advanced data profile from social media, online commerce, and offline transactions and opt-in to share their data with companies for profit.

In checking out the app, it appears a few of the siloed companies are on there, Facebook and Amazon. I can only presume that Steemit will be added in a short period of time.

The integration of Steemit into the Datawallet app will provide the opportunity to further reward users, and give them another monetization stream for the data created on the Steemit platform.

This should excite everyone. We are going to have the ability to monetize our data from Steemit providing another revenue stream. This is enormous. Again, this is something that was discussed the last few years about one of the benefits of blockchain.

It appears Steem is at the forefront of this area too.

And from our own @ned:

“The social media monetization model is broken, both in terms of how platform users are rewarded, and how their data is owned and distributed. Steemit is currently working to resolve part one of that equation and Datawallet are tackling the second. This partnership is a great stepping stone in the long term vision of Steemit to build a living, breathing, and growing social economy.”

What is surprising is this announcement went without any fanfare. This obviously took place last week yet I did not see anything about it until @preparedwombat showed me. We all know that Steemit isn't very good about keeping the users up to date but missing this story could be enormous.

That said, I don't know how all of this will turn out. What it does tell me is that @ned and the rest of the team are very forward thinking. One of the criteria for Steem to make sure it does not become another MySpace is innovation. That comes from looking at how the world could be in the future.

According to their site, DataWallet is about to embark on a token sale for DXT.

Could this possibly be done using SMTs?

Could this be paired with STEEM and traded on Steem's internal exchange?

The DXT token is the main token for DataWallet yet, since Steemians get paid in STEEM, it might make sense to have that conversion.

Lots of questions but all good news.

@ned and the group were busy over the holidays.

I hate to be the one here advising caution... while at least you're getting paid to sell your soul, you're still potentially selling your soul. If it ends up in centralized hands, then that data becomes a honeypot for hackers worsening the digital panopticon.

The whole concept of companies selling data to each other is flawed because it's based upon a usury model. Once usury is finally gone, then this would be almost the same as posting to Steemit. I say almost because you still have the potential abuse centralization of data poses.

That is a really good point @zoidsoft.

But at least one is aware of what data is being provided. At present people do their surfing around only to have that data sold without their consent.

As you say, the more stuff ends up on the blockchain, the less access points there are to hack.

How interesting! I wonder what kinda of data will be “sold”. Would it be metadata about a user’s time online, blogs they’ve upvoted on.. and so forth. I wonder if the data would be used to truly analyze if users are reading one another’s blog. For instance, I clicked on your blog. They might calculate an average time to read an article based on word count, and determine if a user really spends that much time with the blog window open. So if I spent, say 3 minutes on your post, then I actually read your content and my upvote is a true interest. A one second click, eh, probably not. Not sure if something like this is part of the data sold. Interesting to find out though.

I don't understand? In fact, I don't understand the whole post having re-read twice now. Well, that's not strictly true. We're already rewarded for our content on Steemit, that is to say, if someone upvotes it or at the very least you upvote it yourself.

This should excite everyone. We are going to have the ability to monetize our data from Steemit providing another revenue stream. This is enormous. Again, this is something that was discussed the last few years about one of the benefits of blockchain.
What exactly is DataWallet doing and or offering?
Are they offering to monetize your data that you have on Facebook, Twitter et al?
Surely they're not monetizing your content on Steemit?

It is opt-in data selling....you can elect to have the app collect your data and if you want to sell it, you can...if not, then you dont.

Collect your data from where? Steemit?
Sell it to whom?

Everywhere, or at least integrated sites Amazon, Facebook, Steemit. And its purchased by any company that wants to build consumer profiles.

Ah, so it's actually not Steemit centric then. I understand now. Thanks

Upvoted with my one cent to make this visible for noobs! How I understand it, data wallet collect data similiar way as websites like facebook. These websites track your habits and klicks in internet and then they sell that data without paying you. With data-wallet you can sell that data your self, allowing you to profit from it.

That's the same Q in my mind. I think it depends on how Datawallet is going.

Does someone here know the difference to Datum(DAT)? looks like the same thing basically maybe just the API part sets them apart?!

This is huge news! It keeps getting better and better... I can't wait for this to happen. Another revenue stream sounds really good. The rewards are already fantastic. I just wonder how much will people be able to make by monetizing their data.

I guess the answer to that starts with how much are the likes of Google and Facebook making off our data?

From there we can do some quick calculations but I am going to guess it is more than the average person earns.

Wow! This is a very exciting news for people whose data is overlooked by whales and minnows can have another chance at creating another revenue stream. I can't wait for the partnership to be finalized!

Thank you taskmaster for sharing this news with us.

wauhhh..that great. hehehe...steemit keeps innovating every day. i did actually like the various projects started by steemit such as utopian.io and others. lets steem take over all the cryptos and make a history. can steemit replace the king of cryptos BITCOIN? yes, i believe so.

we made a choice of promoting steemit all over the world and ended great work is daily taken to promote the growth of steemit. we are not scared of the value decrease of steem dollar and we are determined to make it great again. Thanks @taskmaster4450

I guess that's why i would never make something like this. These problems barely reached my mind before i read this. amazing to see such proactive behavior in the development of steemit and steem. by the way I mentioned you in my recent post. You are as always an inspiration my good sir. keep it up!

Interesting, but it can really only work if closed systems are dominant. Because in reality your steem data can be mined free of charge. I guess you could still sell the information that wallets on different platforms are owned by a single entity.

That is amazing!!!!
That is why I always say... My data to myself. If I want to sell or not, it's my problem, not from the person whose create the platform.
STEEM is walking to another level of freedom and prosperity!
