Preparing For Hard Fork 21: An Interesting Idea From @oldtimer
This morning I came across an interesting post by @oldtimer. He has put together an interesting plan in preparation for Hard Fork 21.
Many are uncertain that the fork will deliver the benefits that are being touted.
While we are not certain what will be done, indications are that the Witnesses are going to adopt what was set out by Steemit Inc. This means there will be a lot of changes to the system.
The question is how prepared are you for it? Since it is impossible to know what is going to happen, we cannot present concrete plans. However, it is a good idea to consider how one is going to proceed.
This is exactly what @oldtimer did.

This gave me something to think about. If the Hard Fork does go into effect, how will that change what I do on here?
The truth is that I will not stop posting content. I have already started to use PALnet, so I will continue on this. That said, I do not buy into the Hard Fork and the solutions they are espousing. Personally, I believe the bid bots will only get more powerful since they will get increased payouts on their curation. At the same time, I do not feel that smaller accounts will have a chance to garner much in the way of SP without using these services.
Of course, there is no way of knowing until this happens so we will see what unfolds.
Having an option like PALnet is a blessing. When Steem-Engine was created, I knew it was a game changer for this blockchain. Having the ability to transform Steem into a token factory really moved the ecosystem to another level. Here is an instance where we possibly could see it paying off.
@oldtimer is already committed to that. He is basically saying that STEEM is valuable to hold but not to use for voting. By powering down, he made the decision to go all in on PALnet. This will lead to the earning of more PAL tokens, just like many of us did over the past few years with STEEM.
PAL is another ecosystem that is forming on the top of Steem. This will provide the opportunity for many other businesses to be funded using that token. It is like there was a "reset" with newer people being able to get involved in the earliest stages.
This is all giving me a lot to think about. As one who regularly writes about the Steem blockchain and what is taking place on here, I like to consider as much as I can to help others. I believe the idea presented by in this post makes a lot of sense.
I will have to say that holding onto STEEM, in my view, is always a good idea. No matter what happens, hard fork or not, this token is vital to the ecosystem. Not only are we seeing layer two solutions like Steem-Engine using it as the pair for all tokens created, there is a need for Steem Power.
As the number of users grow on the ecosystem, they all will require SP. It is impossible to operate on the blockchain without it (not technically correct since it is Resource Credits needed but they are tied to SP).
Even when using a platform like PALnet, some SP is required to post, comment, and upvote. These activities are still taking place on the Steem blockchain. In fact, to conduct a transaction on Steem-Engine requires a bit of SP since that is registered on the blockchain as a JSON packet.
By delegating the SP, @oldtimer is negating the voting power in that account. Others will use it for their benefit. PALnet has its own voting power that works the same as Steem VP. By committing to that, the stake in PAL is all that matters.
It is an idea worthy of thinking about. Of course, it does require that one do all upvoting on PALnet.io and can only vote for those posts using the PALnet tag.
The best part about all of this is that we do have options. As this ecosystem expands, the choices we have will only grow. This is a vital point to make.
Cryptocurrency is about freedom and if you do not like what is going on, you are free to alter your behavior. This is what this post is trying to point out.
If you found this article informative, please give an upvote and resteem.
I am also focusing on PalNet and am doing a sort of small "protest" powerdown.
It's small, but I'm sending about 1/2 of it to support tokens including palnet on Steem-Engine and some I have sent out to trade.
I've been on Steem since Aug 2016, I love Steem, but I hold the value of the Steem Community much higher than Content and I feel the changes come at the expense of the community.
While of course, I hope they work, I do not like how this is being approached.
I agree with you on that one.
Focusing upon PALnet is not abandoning Steem since it is all part of the ecosystem. The challenge, in my view, is there are only a few who are going to benefit. It is not the community as a whole, like you said.
I am awaiting, as I write this, the conversion of some Litecoin to STEEM to buy some more PAL tokens. Once that is converted, I will power the PAL up.
It is like Steem, part two. We are in the earliest days again.
Greetings @taskmaster4450,
Yes...this is the best part about Palnet....as you said...'we are in the earliest days again.'
Cheers!
See you on Palnet!
Greetings @taskmaster4450,
You have given Steemians something to think about.
All the best.
Cheers!
Couldn’t agree more with what you said here. Steem Engine tribes such as Palnet will become the go-to for all users on Steem while all the businesses & communities accumulate STEEM for RCs, account creation, incentivizing the user base, etc.
As soon as I read the Pal white paper and saw palnet.io for the first time, I realized the value that was being created here and I couldn’t help but push my chips into the pot.
Im not happy at all about the hardfork. My Steem is on power down for the first time since I came on board 3 years ago!
Wow! Are you looking at Pal or going? If you choose to not answer, no hard feelings, my friend. I powered some down, then stopped it. Looking to hear your thoughts.
I’m powering down some to be ready for whatever and I will focus a bit on Palner.io
I’m not happy about the proposed HF and I think that they are implementing too many things at once.
I am here mostly to have fun anyway but the way way I interact with people will likely need to change drastically.

Hmmm. I may not be right but I see Steem-engine as being what Steemit shoulda, coulda, woulda been!
I have a few pal tokens but have not made the transition to going in bigger just yet. Every day makes me think harder about it though :-)
That’s an interesting turn I’d never considered.... 🤔
This hf seems very fishy to me but ya know what, I’m still going to do the best I can 😀

Many are already been said about HF21, while still many witnesses are shouting out loud, still a whole many are quiet preparing for it.
Let us take the risk. Let us take this hardfork. We are humans, we are not a algorithms, we could think of beautiful things to work our way out.
Our blockchain is strong and many more opportunities to come.
