@Ned Speaks: Update For 2018

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

There was a post put up on @steemitblog by @ned yesterday laying out some details for 2018.

Personally, I think it is the best communication we saw from the Steemit developers.

Doing a quick recap of 2017, @ned covered the fact that they were a ton of growth during the year. A quick list of them included.....

-Scaling
-A ton of new applications
-Steemfest2
-Free image hosting
-Steem Power Delegation
-Steem software turned open source
-Improved the sign up process
-Updated White Paper and Introduced Blue Paper
-Announcement of SMTs
-Utopian.io update
-Additional exchanges listed on
-Restructuring of key players

Engaging in frank admission, @ned also owned up to the fact that the development team fell short in a few areas.

-2017 roadmap

They had some big misses in terms of time frames and projects that were slated to be rolled out. One reason for this was the power of SMT which altered the course of focus.

-Mobile

This is a big one which @ned said is still not up to the standard they set for themselves. He acknowledged that mobile is crucial, hence the need to hold to their standards. They are not willing to rush it just to release something that is substandard. It is still a priority yet it is not at the top of the list.

-Communication

Another big area of concern for the users. The fact that they go months without commenting is unacceptable. This situation is remedied by having @andrarchy serve as community liaison.

Looking forward to the rest of 2018, the priorities have not changed. Blockchain scalability (AppBase), Communities (Hivemind), sign up process (Hard Fork 20), and Smart Media Tokens are the major initiatives. This should come as no surprise to anyone who is on here a while.

We know what big features Steemians want: communities, spam management, modular application components for simple and fast development, a great sign-up flow, Smart Media Tokens... and they want it yesterday. That’s where we’re focusing our attention.

@ned again mentioned the continued path to tokenize internet content. His goal of 100,000 businesses on the STEEM blockchain in the next 5 years was also reiterated. To accomplish this, the team was altered slightly with new people brought in to lead the next phase. They are implementing a new process of development which should enable they to operate more efficiently and to better hit target dates.

The best part of STEEM is the community on here. Each day we see the front end people hard at work...the users. However, it is refreshing to know that the back end, the developers, are equally as hard at making sure this blockchain remains one of the leading ones in terms of technical advancement. These two groups combine to make a very strong community.

It is comforting to know that the challenges we all see with the site here are known and being addressed by the developers. Unfortunately, when it comes to technology, these things cannot be rushed. We all must be a bit more patient and we will start to see things happening. 2018 is going to be a wonderful year for STEEM and this post from @ned shows the developers are committed to that.

This also shows that the Weiss Group was correct in their report rating STEEM as the best cryptocurrency to buy.

Keep on Steemin'.

It's good to know that Steemit is moving forward with great confidence. Can't wait to see what's in store for this year.

I hope they will disable self upvoting in the future, atleast for comments.

Maybe it's your destiny to be a minnow forever, not mine! And upon further thought, when you invest your own money into this platform, you may think differently. \

More communication would be awesome and I'm certainly looking forward to that in 2018. I'm hoping they release a timeline for the projects at some point in the year as well. Overall I think it was a positive message, though maybe a bit cautious. Possibly setting us up for the classic underpromise/overdeliver scenario :)

Certainly having a PR person, aka "Community Relations," will be a welcome addition to the platform helping to keep all informed. An updated roadmap would also be welcomed.

Thanks for breakdown all the important points of that post,

I saw that post yesterday but not able to read that time and now when i see your this post I opened it righ away,

Well i really enjoy all the interview of @ned he is a very talented guy and also know how to keep things interesting and informative at the same time.

Iam sure that 2018 is going to be a huge year for Steemit because we can clearly see the rise in daily Active users and also a lot of new people joining Steemit each day,so it's really a good thing to keep us motivated.

Yes, it's going to be an exciting year! Steem price will explode and we will be dancing cuz we'll be filthy rich!

I read that article from Ned. I thought it was very encouraging. It is so amazing to see how far steemit has come in such a short time. To think of all that was accomplished in 2017 gets me really excited for 2018

yes me too. I am amazed at all he projects that are on the go, and for me it was a bit of an eye opener in terms of those projects, and future plans. It was reassuring to read that is for sure, and gives me confidence for the future

I would have loved some ETAs for all these changes, listing them is a step forward but we still don't know when these things are coming out.

So many updates are coming our way, I just can't wait, haha! It's nice to see some communication from the devs talking about what's going on, finally! This year for Steem is going to be even greater than the last year :)

I saw this too and was very pleased. However, it seems that not many people saw it. I resteemed, but I'm just a small guy. I'm wondering if perhaps those with more voting power than I could suggest that posts of this nature get a special place, unique by itself in the world of Steemit. It's seems to me all of us would benefit.

i appreciated hearing from them. i wish they would do reports more often as they also listed that as one of things they weren't doing so well. having the developers "check in" with us boosts user confidence.

@taskmaster4450, the biggest thing that I love in Steemit is that continue improvement of the platform. The video of @ned show the proximity of the devs with users and how they try to fix the problems that we said that the platform have.
All these new features will improve the user interactivity in the platform, and that is amazing!

Read the post and agree about the mobile side of things.

I can't for the life of me get eSteem to work so have been sitting back waiting for an official Steemit mobile app.

Hopefully in 2018 we can see one because that would be absolutely massive for adoption as well.

Crossing fingers!
