Manna Coming To STEEM Via SMT????

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

This is purely a speculative article on my part based upon what Eric Stenson, one of the co-founders of Manna, said in an interview last week. However, based upon his words, it makes sense that this is something they could be looking at going forward.

Reasons I Believe This
  • Manna just opened up an account and joined Steemit. They are posting on there while making the point clear they are looking to support the STEEM community.

  • Both men in the video, Eric Stenson and @scottsantens, have STEEM accounts. @scottsantens recently joined Manna as an advisor.

  • In the video at the 2 minute mark, Eric mentioned Mannabase being not only a place to send/receive Manna, but also turning it into a social media platform.

  • At the 3:20 mark, Eric mentioned eventually being able to blog on Mannabase "similar to what you can do on Steemit". He also mentions giving Manna to bloggers who create content. Sound familiar?

Those are his words. Is it possible the team at Manna discussed moving their operations onto the STEEM blockchain? Did they take a look at the Smart Media Token white paper to realize what they could do? It is interesting that Eric mentioned Steemit and doing the same thing on Mannabase. While it is entirely possible they design something from scratch, why would they do that when the content/reward system is turn key simply by going on to this blockchain?

Actually, this move does make a great deal of sense for Manna if it is pursued.

Why This Makes Sense
  • Manna wants to have tens of millions of people receiving their basic income. Since it is distributed on a weekly basis, this means that at least once a week, without any other transactions figured in, there will be millions of transactions just from the distribution. We know that the only two blockchains that can handle that volume at this time is STEEM and BTS (BTS doesnt have a social media aspect to it nor the content/reward system created).

We know how ETH, BTC, and LTC are not equiped for the traffic that is being sent through today let alone down the road.

According to http://www.blocktivity.info, STEEM is processing more transactions than all others combined while using .16% of its network capacity to move 1.6M transactions. ETH is at 56% usage at just over 750K.

If Manna takes off like the co-founders envision, there is the potential that 50M transactions a week will be done in that currency. STEEM is a blockchain that can handle that volume, the others cannot.

  • No transaction fees: Manna is targeting poverty where every cent counts. Using a network other than STEEM means transaction fees are involved. While it is a much smaller amount than what the banks charge, it is still more than zero. This can be eliminated on the STEEM blockchain by holding STEEM for bandwidth. This way people in poverty stricken areas are not penalized for sending Manna.

  • STEEM already has a built in content/curation reward system that is tested and proven. Steemit already went through the trail process of trying to get the payouts balanced. While not perfect, I know there were different models tried. Now, any application that joins this blockchain has the option of altering the ratios while leaving the same basic system in place. For an outfit like Manna, who I presume personnel is a challenge, having a "turn-key" is of great appeal.

If the goal is to have Mannabase as a social media platform where people can blog and get rewards "similar to Steemit" wouldn't using that same system be prudent? I think it makes total sense and can see thinking if Manna is looking in this direction.

  • It only makes sense to leverage the STEEM ecosystem. There are close to 1M users on STEEM and it is a number that is growing. Over the next few years, millions of people from all over the world are going to sign up here. While Manna deals with real world problems, a great deal of our communication is done online. STEEM has the goal of tokenizing the Internet. If it moves towards that end, STEEM will have a huge ecosystem. Being a part of that allows Manna access to many of those same people. Plus, STEEM is having success entering the 3rd world nations with strong communities forming in Indonesia, Nigeria, and other African nations.

  • Three second transaction time: This is crucial if Manna is serious about being a currency that is used for payments. One of the drawbacks to BTC and even ETH for this purpose is the time it takes to send a transaction. Even without waiting for the network to open up, it takes minutes to send something. That is unacceptable as a method of payment. While those other blockchains are working to correct the problem, STEEM already has the answer. Three second transaction times means there is near instantaneous transactions. Money should operate like this.

  • Many Steemians are also involved with Manna. While the numbers are still small overall, I see more people posting referral links on STEEM. Manna has caught the attention of many on here. This is not surprising since STEEM is advanced in terms of the crypto knowledge that exists. Being involved on this blockchain means one is involved with crypto since that is how the system pays out.

  • The STEEM community is loyal, strong, and caring. This is one of the biggest advantages to STEEM. People do ultimately care (at least a portion of them). Manna is looking to move the world more towards a 5D reality. To do this, lifting up humanity is crucial. Providing a system where some abundance is offered to people is one of the primary steps that need to be taken. STEEM enables people to earn money by being active. Manna provides people currency simply for breathing. Together, in my mind, they create a solid foundation in the effort to move away from the scarcity model society presently operates under.

As I said at the start of this article, this is total speculation on my part. However, bringing Manna to STEEM via the Smart Media Token protocol makes complete sense. Since Eric brought up the idea of Mannabase being a social media site while allowing the rewarding of blogging, I drew the parallel. STEEM was created to put social media on the blockchain. If Manna wants blockchain-based social media, I would think STEEM is the place to be.

Could this be what the Manna team is thinking?

It will be interesting to see if they are.

Lets hope it does happen . We will be in lambo soon . Hahahah nice speculation , but steem has got a real chance .

Wow!

not sure if there is any restriction . I am trying to build a community around without delegating to votebot , anything u want to add?

Obviously it's your prerogative but it casts you in a certain light to everyone. You can always consider helping those less fortunate than yourself. :D

I have just started my journey over steemit 2 months back and powered up my account . Now trying to promote quality contents , rather than just putting curation for random contents. I am also running a weekly content contest . The idea is to find out good content producers who are less fortunate and then curate them. As the number of content producers increase within our community , there will be number of more social projects initiated from me. And thanks for encouraging me .

His point is you arent promoting much with an 86% self vote rate...

other than yourself of course.

i find very little good content among my community i am trying to build . And i need to generate money to support the weekly contests and future campaigns . I get all your points . Wanted to clear mine . Thanks

I think once the first few SMTs go through and start operating, there will be a tipping point where a lot more platforms consider moving to the STEEM ecosystem. It will be exciting to keep an eye on moving forward. Thanks for the share!

I can not wait to see SMT come live. Just imagine everyone can make their on tokens would be so cool. @taskmaster4450 you must be planning one yourself?

Let hope more people sign up for manna, because I like the philosophy of manna. Which is reducing world poverty rate to a mere minimum

It is going slowly according to their website. Over 45K verified now....

So it is growing....I think they will cross 50K by next distribution.

Wow. This could be an interesting development. Manna could leverage the Steem reward system to inject funds into their basic income pool. A user could allocate some percentage of their Steem rewards to the Manna network. Opens up some new opportunities to keep Manna (and Steem) growing.

Yeah, it's only logical to go with the STEEM blockchain, because their goal is to have millions of people earning MANNA. Free transactions and great speed is essential if they want to meet the goal of millions of users getting MANNA.

I agree @trendo. It is the logical conclusion...I am not sure if it is the only one since there might be other things in their minds....however, if I had a vote, which I do not, that would be my option.

STEEM offers are great deal of potential...

Well isn't that a great idea if your speculation turns out to be the plan and they implement in Steem as a SMT.

Indeed the infrastructure of Steem would be able to handle the transactions that they see that they would need to run an UBI program.
The rewards and content creation is already in place.

I'm kinda thinking how Kryptonia is set up and doing task that will garner Superior coins but in this case it is Manna.

That is the wonderful thing about blockchain...so many directions it can go in....we are starting to see so many things emerging.

Indeed the possibilities are endless as more and more industries are seeing teh potential of the blockchain and how they can utilize it.
It is a gamechanger and is bound to be mass adopted even with all the FUDthe bankster exert.

The Manna project sounds amazing! The potential is mind boggling!

its awesome. Lets see what happen.

Informative....... nice post@taskmaster4450
