The coming feeding frenzy

in #steem7 years ago

We are on a train down to Helsinki to spend the night and attend an Ed Sheeran concert. I bought the tickets for Valentine's in February after they added another night to the tour as the one-night show sold out fast. Weirdly, tomorrow night is the original date, meaning that those who were late buying tickets will actually see the concert before those who were the keenest to see it.

Imagine lining up for tickets to a movie premiere and then as you were heading into the cinema, others were heading out after seeing the movie first and, not having to line at all. Would you be annoyed?

We all like to be the first with information and it is likely hardwired into us as knowledge is power when used well, whether it is knowing where the best hunting spot is, the best place to collect berries or - which crypto asset is going to do well. While chance plays a role, it is knowledge that gives us an edge in consistency.

Last night, @acidyo asked in a AskSteem post what were our best crypto investments and what is interesting is that most of my best ones are actually ones that were recommended to me by @acidyo himself. Considering this is a pretty long bear market, I am still up in Smoke, Enjin and the little bit of EOS I still hold.

EOS is probably the best investment as I with a few hundred Steem, I bought a little EOS and later sold it for a few thousand Steem. For me, EOS is not overly interesting as I don't feel connected to the community there in any way so, I sold most of what I held. What I hold isn't much, but I hold not much of a few crypto projects, just in case.

I am looking long, so what isn't much today could be quite a lot more in a few years from now so I keep investing little bits in here and there where I can. My last buy was the Steem it took to power into an Orca layer, but now I am considering adding a little more fiat into the mix. My wife is hopefully going to get a job soon which takes some pressure off my own earnings and while I will continue to work, it means that I will have a little extra to invest. How much I am not sure yet, as we hope to clear a few debts.

One thing is for sure though, I am tired of the daily grind working toward something that always seems to be a little out of reach, no matter how much work I do. This is part of the plan of course because if everyone was able to clear their debts, the debt cycle wouldn't be able to be maintained and then - who would pay the real debt?

23 trillion in the US, DeutscheBank exposed to another 43 trillion in derivatives? The traditional global economy isn't shaping up for a smooth future, but in that absolute shitstorm of economic pain that is gathering on the horizon, there is going to be opportunity for the resourced and the brave. Right now, I am trying to maneuver myself into a postition where I can take some advantage.

While Steem might not seem a great investment when counting the time spent to earn, what I imagine is going to happen is that at the next major financial crash, people are going to be forced into looking for any alternative revenue streams they are able to find and I am quite confident that Steem is going to onboard and absorb a lot of new users into its various folds of experience.

In times of economic hardship, people get creative. Remember that Bitcoin itself was first created and the first block mined 10+ years ago as a direct response to global economic conditions and the genesis block referenced the bank bailout - actually, the second bank bailout. What happens at the next crash that is tipped to be much worse than the 2007/8 monstrosity?

The market coffers are filled with money while companies themselves aren't growing at the same rate which means, when the crash comes, that value is going to drain very fast indeed and like always, the ones who will spark the collapse will make it out with profits, while the other 99% will be left holding the bag, and be again forced to front the cost of bailout. Is that going to be you?

Not me at least because, I don't "own" any stocks. I have never been in the position where I have felt that investing into stocks was within my reach. I think many have been or are in this boat but, Steem gives them a chance of investing without any input other than their own skill and mind, and crypto gives the potential to invest in with very little cost considering the potential upside and, very low fees in comparison to the middleman investment firms. When it comes to crypto, a few dollars can go far but in traditional stocks, they will be eaten up completely making small amounts unsuitable to trade with.

It is funny isn't it? Those who need a little bit of ownership value the most have barriers to entry into the space because the fees are too high. People complain about the cost of a Steem account ( a few dollars if you can't find a free one) yet, that same amount would be the cost of a single trade in many investment firms. I think that later, the cost of account for access to earn is going to be irrelevant as it is about the lowest barrier of entry into a trading position and chance to develop some kind of portfolio.

So, for me, I see Steem as my best crypto investment because while in comparison to time in it isn't overly attractive, the future of a socially owned and socially empowering Blockchain and community holds a great deal of future potential as it gives people a way to do what they do already, only from an owner's, entrepreneur's and creator's perspective. yes, there will be plenty to consume too, which makes this an economy that turns the table on the debt cycle and starts to become individually generative through a community of owners looking to create value for themselves.

It is just a matter of time before the next economic collapse and make no mistake, it is on the way because that is the way an economy powered by debt works. It doesn't have to work this way, but that is up to us - because those who demand are those who drive supply.

Everyone on Steem has premiere seats and owns the theater itself.

Nothing is what it seems these days as the fiat and debt bubble has really made prices be unrealistic to a number of assets; probably even some crypto. I am happy to say that my best investment these days have been my Steem Monsters collection which has outperformed everything else! Ironic given the performance of Steem!

I think the SM cards are a decent proof of concept for digital asset investments. I am looking forward to how the NFTs will be used.

I am tired of the daily grind working toward something that always seems to be a little out of reach, no matter how much work I do.

Totally feeling this and I know I won’t be the only one.

Also snickered quietly when I read that you were on the train and I’m like why you here instead of talking to wifey 😆

Enjoy the concert 😄

She was catching 40. I was also doing some work along the way :)

I think many feel it and when the next crash comes, many still haven't fully recovered from the last.

Marking this to read with attention later. My headcold is preventing from data to eter and be assimilated..I would however love to know more about crypto investment and the workings of it.😁 Enjoy the Ed Sheeran concert. I'm envious.

My head felt like that yesterday, except it was a migraine that stopped assimilation of information.

I don't know much about the investing side but, I do think that those who are putting some percentage into decent projects will do okay.

Hope you feel better soon.

Oh man sorry for the migraine. That sucks. I'm hoping my cold will depart soon. I'm quite sick of it hanging around.. 😂 Thank you for the answer. I will still read and take some pointers from those cleverer than me with this. 😊

:D I can only wish...

When did you become an orca? Will you write a post about it?

Posted using Partiko Android

I did it last week in a not so flashy post about the death of a dolphin :)

I added in some more fiat to get there because I wanted to make it before HF21

Oh yes, I remember that post and I even congratulated you... I need to put my head in a bucket with cold water to refresh my mind. I'm sorry for the confusion!

This is the illness of content consumption ;D
I hear it is pretty warm down your way too so the cold water might be welcome.

Next week @laputis and I are going to Denmark. Maybe it will be cooler...

Windier at least :)
It is meant to hit 32 in Finland this weekend. The wife and @smallsteps left for the summer cottage today, I will follow after work tomorrow with the dog. Hoping for some time chilling out and perhaps some photography.

I wonder how Santa is doing in North Pole... Maybe his elves are bringing him ice tea...

:) I think he stays cool with Magic but technically, Santa lives at Korvatunturi, a hill up in the far north of Lapland.

I can see this playing out over the next few years and an $8 Steem will seem very cheap. I am grateful for having had this opportunity and seeing what is possible. You opened my eyes early on and it made me work even harder.
