I don't think most people have though that much about the "swords of steem" but as the saying goes, live by the sword, die by the sword and it is definitely true here.

I also think that people don't realize how much of an effect the locked stake has and, what happens to vote and payout values as price increases. A decent movement up sets of a chain reaction and while many will sell, the wider distribution keeps spreading across the four pillars for the next run, and the next. As inflation decreases, many are going to get very tight-fisted with their steem. Let the SMTs flow! :)
