Happily applicated

in #steem5 years ago

One of the reasons I am so excited about the tokenization of Steem and especially the rewarding contributors with SMTs rather than with Steem itself is that it allows for a much broader creation of applications. While pretty much any type of content can be served by the Steem Blockchain, the reward and distribution model ties the hands of the applications also.

How I see the future is tat the Steem ecosystem is going to be the backbone of a very diverse set of applications that enable users to participate in Blockchain and crypto in a vast array of ways. The larger this ecosystem becomes and the wider the use case and niche range of applications, the more encapsulating it is because it is able to offer more people an experience that suits their needs.

This means that rather than Steem being the experience, it starts to resemble something like an application store where there is a large pool for users to pick and choose from and if handled well, There will be SMTs that offer interoperability across applications at a token level while leveraging the blockchain at a practical level. As the ecosystem grows, it becomes more ingrained into people's lives without there needing to be cross over of every experience.

While this already happens in some ways, there is still a great deal of visibility between uses and there are limited options in how they are managed and how things like abuse are handled. A great deal of the abuse on Steem is because people want to earn Steem and this means that with such a diverse user base and wants, it is much harder to combat. Yes, tweaks can and should be made but through the distributed tokenization of applications, it allows operators a much freer hand to moderate and, a narrow set of behaviors to process.

But abuse is not the only benefit of course because with a great deal more applications, the ability of leaving the whole ecosystem becomes much harder as there is increased chance that people are using more than one application and therefore more chance they want to maintain usage of one or more, even while they drop usage of another. Much like one doesn't have to throw away a device every time an application is dropped - I have been on Android for a very long time across devices but the applications I use have shifted a fair bit over time.

The beauty of Steem over a purely niche Blockchain is that one doesn't have to throw away what has been built in the past even if moving applications. This is part of the reason I don't get the pomp and carnival of those who announce they are "leaving Steem" - because, why?? They can very happily stay on Steem and change their behavior of how they use and consume from it to a way that fits their mindset at the time. If you are tired of blogging move to @appics, no longer want to play @Steemmonsters rent your cards out and blog on @tasteem about the restaurants you visit.

It seems quite strange to me that people make such a fuss about leaving something like Steem when there really is nothing to leave. Of course, there is the value of the currency involved for most of them which is likely the more important aspect but, one can still powerdown everything without leaving Steem. After all, this is the blockchain, once joined and creating, there really is no true leaving as the past is always written immutably into the chain.

For me, the ecosystem of Steem is a beautiful place and the more it grows in uses the better it gets, as more people have the chance to find something they enjoy or love about the space. While those on steem might not fully appreciate tokenization yet as it is of lower value for the most part than steem itself, new user to the SMT-powered applications will not know about Steem in their experience and will improve their value in time.

As the entire industry grows and splinters into a mass of communities and niches as well as large scale products and services, there is going to be a huge range of tokens and chains getting utilized concurrently by an individual user and just like now, there will be millions of apps that both compete against each other for attention and innovate to expand the ecosystem to become even more inclusive.

It is funny when I hear people that give up on Steem and powerdown for greener pastures because in time they are likely to be back, although it will be on an SMT application powered by all the people who stayed. Who knows, perhaps they will be utilizing an self-help app to get over their fear of uncertainty that rewards them when they don't quit. Maybe not :D

The more apps we have the more Steem that will be needed to drive them through their SMT's. They will be back again as that is what happens. I can remember the users that abandoned everyone the last time and my eyes are wide open now.

I notice them too. I understand people losing faith, getting tired and discouraged but, there is also a limit on how many chances people get and steem is a big opportunity.

We all get tired at some point and that still doesn't stop the majority of us. Grab a Red Bull or take a days break , but that doesn't mean you need to stop. I would be happier supporting the names on here now than others returning after a years break. It tells me they are all in it for themselves like pirates coming to plunder the reward pool.

I like this write up! The most important thing people dont realize is that firstly, we are like a decade from getting to real mass adoption, and also that people are still set in their ways to carry on using bank cards and facebook and cant imagine a world without them yet.

Plus its exactly how you say, finding how to use it for each person is different and most just see this one website and think "either do post, or leave the blockchain" instead of using it in a different way, delegating sp for instance for an income and just then logging in just once a month to see whats happening with your delegations etc.

Its bound to happen though, I mean a social media site is at the end of the day, a stomping ground for the Ego and Steemit is just a social media site, what does anyone expect! That's why we see so much pain from people because its all ego hahahah..

If you enjoy blogging and sitting at a desk then write - and play monsters and others in between!

If you want a passive income then just delegate SP!

If you need a place to store text and pictures, then save em in a post!

If you don't go much online and are active, use Actifit!

This blockchain still has something for everyone and that will only become more and more! Sure mostly we all got fucked on by whales on here, but we are one of the most diverse blockchains there is, and we are early days yet!

haha, I am pretty certain I deleted the lines about ego but, Thank you :D

Sure mostly we all got fucked on by whales on here,

Not as much as people think as only 17% of their stake is active... blame the orcas and dolphins :D

There are a lot of things here now and it is always expanding, I like it.

pmsl!!

Steem on and keep up the good writeups, I don't often get much time to comment etc these days but hey, it couldn't be at a quieter time anyway so all good there!!

I would argue that the biggest 'thing' people are leaving is the community - the people they have conversed with day in, day out for however many months or years. I guess they may have other means of contact which suit their lifestyle better.

Spot on.

perhaps they will be utilizing an self-help app to get over their fear of uncertainty that rewards them when they don't quit.

I wonder why they get supported financially when they return though. Throw them a few comments sure, but turn the autos off.

This 100 times.

I'll write some drivel on the subject for you to up-vote before I leave :P

excellent. I will buy you a departing vote.

I believe one of the main reasons people leave Steem is because elsewhere they expect bigger rewards. And this usually comes through a larger inflation rate of younger platforms. But in a few years the inflation rate over there should also drop and the rewards will become smaller. So I don't know... Maybe they will jump the ship once again because the grass is always greener over the fence.

Yes. I have seen it happen with many people already. And for most, even if tose other platforms perform well, they will not have invested into it and be left with nothing. The post yesterday shows that the active classes are minnows, dolphins and orcas because, they also have the most to lose. The whales obviously have more to lose but they are less concerned with activity as they likely don't need it for living at all maybe ever and have enough padding to wait.

Yes and those whales who aren't active must have gained their stake too easily. Perhaps from 100 percent inflation from the beginning or circle jerking. In other words, I think they didn't put their money where their mouth is. At least for some it seems like it could be true.

For a few of them it is true and of course the Steemit Inc accounts that mined heavily very early. For some of the others they did buy and some I am unsure about. There are a few very good whales around despite their early mining and some of them have been enormously helpful for the platform distribution.

THe thing with easy Steem is that as prices climb, it is easy to sell too. This is a good thing because it continually reduces their stake and gives opportunity for others to participate. At some point, scarcity will mean this is an important thing to happen.

And thus we shall ride them like ponies when they return.

I am loving these soon-to-be-famous quotes.

Me too!

Greetings, @tarazkp. I've been at Steemit for two years, I couldn't be active from the beginning, then I joined a community and loved it. Really, Steemit is a beautiful place as you say. For me it's an oasis in the middle of the desert, I don't know much about applications or how to make the most of it, it's just been a space to write my poems and thoughts and share with a lot of good and intelligent people. I always try to be around here, I will never leave, I take time from my work to continue sharing and I hope that the growth of this platform will be for the benefit of all users. Excellent publication, my friend.
