Well there are some people that actually went from zero to few hundred bucks worth of Steem in a year. There are platforms like @esteem that upvote quality content with $0.5 per post and I think that the whales and dolphins should help out too if they truly care about Steem. Why am I saying this? Well because most of the whales upvote their own content and content of other whales and dolphins in return for their vote (intentionally or in a routine) while some newbies with really quality content are getting absolutely ignored. What Steemit needs is some sort of filtering that would allow us to search posts by number of words and language while copy/paste profiles should be banned immediately. I think that this would make easier for whales and dolphins (and everybody else) to find quality content and support it. Most of the newbies are publishing 'shitposts' which are regular part of every social network but the problem is that quality articles then get lost in the sea of 'shitposts' and they don't get any attention. Eventually they'll leave and never come again.. To me it's tragical that someone takes actual time and effort to write something good and then it ends up with $0.00. In the begininngs I was happy with $0.02 just because I got at least something. Btw. we also need BTC to start moving and the new wave of users will surely come. Maybe I'm still a noob here but that's just my personal opinion, it's not like it's impossible to make money from free account but it's true that most of newbies are not going to get attention (even if they deserve it) ☺
