3rd party commenting market share, integration & outreach

Is there a way to integrate with Disqus? Other than Facebook comments (52.5%), Disqus dominates market share (42.2%): http://imgur.com/QczAIOu

Here is a Medium blog from a Disqus founder that has some insight and perspective on discussion forums & commenting. It would be good to see how they are building out a forum on disqus.com.

Here is a new company Civil that allows people to help moderate comments on their 3rd party commenting platform

So what would it take to integrate? Could someone create a plugin to a Disqus API?
