Using traction channels from the book 'Traction'

Taking excerpts from the book Traction, it's important to narrow efforts to a few channels and then experiment to identify the best one in each stage of the company to focus all efforts. However, anyone can help with any one of these channels.

  1. Targeting blogs - Startups like Codeacademy, Mint, and reddit all got their start targeting blogs.
  2. Publicity - Publicity is the art of getting your name out there in traditional media like newspapers, magazines, & TV.
  3. Unconventional PR - doing some unusual like publicity stunts to draw media attention.
  4. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) - ads to consumers searching on Google and other search engines
  5. Social and Display Ads - reddit, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter
  6. Offline Ads - includes TV spots, radio commercials, billboards, infomercials, newspaper, magazine ads, flyers and other local ads.
  7. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - process of making sure the website shows up for key search results.
  8. Content Marketing - Using a company blog and generating good content. Also known as inbound marketing.
  9. Email marketing - growing an email list and sending content to share.
  10. Engineering as marketing - using engineering resources to acquire customers like building microsites, widgets, free tools that drive leads.
  11. Viral marketing - growing your customer base by encouraging customers to refer others.
  12. Business development - strategic relationships with other companies that market to the same target audience
  13. Sales - mainly processes to sell products and convert customers
  14. Affiliate programs - Companies like HostGator, GoDaddy have programs with partner sales networks
  15. Existing platforms - Focusing growth on a megaplatform like Facebook, Twitter, App Store
  16. Trade shows - show off technology and develop partnerships
  17. Offline events - sponsoring or running offline events from meetups to larger conferences.
  18. Speaking engagements - Eric Ries, author of The Lean Startup, used speaking engagements to hit the bestseller list within a week of his book launch
  19. Community building - Companies like Wikipedia & Stack Exchange have grown passionate communities around their products.

What do you think is the most important channel for STEEMit at this stage?
Where do you think you can contribute in general?

Sort:

2 is first. 19 is underway and should accelerate with other efforts. Plans for many of these. Looking forward to lots of testing. I encourage anyone to reach out with suggestions, intros or anything positive.

Sounds good. I was going to mention Wachsman PR but you guys are already on their client list! May have some mainstream tech beat writer contacts from a while back that may be interested in a scoop. They may be interested in eventually using Steemit as a platform to break their exclusive stories.

I think most important we need to create a framework that would help us to explore all these different channels. It should allow to us measure number of active users brought by channel as well as cost of user acquisition.

Channel 8 and some of 7 is discussed here: STEEMit - Content. Is. King.

Some times when I upvote it shows a red arrow like a downvote. Remove the downvote since there is no reason for that and confuses. There is a reason why facebook doesn’t have a downvote

Everyone should start posting news from other crypto and non crypto sites (coindesk, cointelegraph, zerohedge, bbc, ft…). From everywhere. At some point the owners of these sites and the journalist they will realize that other people earn money from their hard work so they will start posting here. Steem will become eventually the GLOBAL DECENTRALIZED PRESS!!
