Abusive Google Ads from SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

Hi everyone!

Have you noticed that Steemit started already to deploy Google Ads? They are appearing both on feed page, and inside the post page, at the end of the comment section. The selected design is very aggressive, making the ads look as they are an integrated part of the content.

I have no problem with the Google Ads business model, as I believe that this is a fair source of income for the authors of various contrnt on the web. But here I see it totaly misused.

Steemit is not the owner of the content, and adding commercials to monetize something that they do not own, is immoral.

As an author, I have a very strong opinion about this.

Steemit, please grow up! And stop making money from my content! Write your own content, and get paid for it!

I'd begin by saying that normally ads are only shown to people "not logged in" (or with no account). If you log in, you shouldn't be seeing ads (in a sense, it gives a tangible value to "owning an account" - you get one in order to spare yourself the ads, I see that as pretty fair)

Then I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that your content, my content would not be worth much if it could not be find and read by others. We are in a symbiosis with Steemit - we write the content, they "carry" and "serve" the content to an audience.

In order to do that, they incur costs that they do not ask us to pay, nor the consumers of our content. They cover those costs by selling steem, the same currency we get for our content. This puts selling pressure on the steem price and lowers its price, which is not good for content creators either. By introducing ads for "passers by", those who come and consume content but are not engaged with the platform and do not own an account, they can diversify their sources of revenue and should need to sell less steem, which should result in higher steem prices and is good for the content creators as well.

The Google Ads were visible when I was logged in into my account.

Regarding the other aspect, I do not fully understand what is the need of having the Steemit around. All the data is stored in the blockchain, which is ran by various witnesses (yes, they get STEEM/SBD which they need to sell to cover the costs).

Steemit (the commercial company) is just a front-end App, as many others (Busy, Partiko, eSteem, and more to come). The other apps are making it transparwnt how they finance their costs (delegation for Partiko, and percentage of the payout for eSteem) and they keep their users committed by being transparent about what they are doing. None of this is valid for Steemit.

Or did I got something wrong?
